@Garchomp/Surf
I don't have a water pokemon in my party, and I wanted someone to learn Surf as it is a basic HM that's needed for navigating the game world. I don't like using HM slaves except for caves in which you kind of have to. I don't play max stats, I guess... just not that hardcore. *shrugs* I needed a pokemon to learn Surf, and Garchomp was my only option if I wanted to keep the line-up that I had.

Haha, was just typing up the Battle Tower stuff since mentioning Platinum reminded me of it (though it was just mashing "A" while I watched Dexter >>) when I remembered you said Garchomp and Surf in the same sentence and I was like, "wait what." Half of that was forgetting that he can even learn Surf.
I always carry two HM Slaves and my main ...1 carries me through the game. An old habit from when HM moves were not removable and hating to waste a precious spot on my move sets. That and when they all sucked hardcore (except Surf).
Well, they still suck hardcore except Surf for Special or Waterfall for Physicals >>. Flash (now a TM!) is a nice offensive debuff for Battle Tower though.
Starmie, Scizor, Garchomp, and Lucario made up my main 4 for this play. Usually my starter does the entire game solo but I wasn't planning on using Infernape so whatever (not sure if I want an SD Ape or NP Ape or Mix). This is probably the first time since I started Pokemon WAAAAAY BACK THEN that I didn't just solo rape faces >>
Avg Level was ~52 across the board with Lucario somehow managing like 56, which still confuses me a lot since I don't recall using him that much since my breeded moveset on him was terrible for leveling (ExtremeSpeed, Close Combat, Crunch, Sword's Dance). 180 base power after STAB +6 Close Combat is scary shit though.
And ... SHAME ON YOU NO WATER POKEMON ^^
<-- Water fanboy?
Probably just Starmie. Versatile little fucker that one is.
Though I do think the D/Pe/Pl Water choices are pretty meh for the most part. Think the first good one you can get is uh ... Gyrados (still wouldn't give it Surf), Tentacruel (...Wall), or Milotic (biggest pain in the ass to catch + evolve in the world). >>

WHY CAN RHYPERIOR LEARN SURF.
I picked the water starter for Pearl, so I went grass starter for this one. My set is:
Rapidash
Luxray
Misdreavus
Noctowl <--I desperately want a better Flyer
Garchomp
Torterra
Maybe not the best lineup ever, but I like them and we're getting through the game allright together.
PS
What does +6 mean? I keep seeing you use it...

KKINO I FUKKIN LOVE YOU MAN
"+X" refers to how many stages of increase you have, with +6 being the max (and -6 being the decrease max). Most abilities are +1 but a few are +2 and are differentiated with a different message (for example, Swords Dance has "X's Attack has sharply rose!" as opposed to just "rose" or whatever).
The six stages of increase are:
x1.5, x2.0, x2.5, x3.0, x3.5, and x4.0.
The six stages of decrease are:
2/3, 1/2, 2/5, 1/3, 2/7, and 1/4.
(66.67%, 50%, 40%, 33%, 28.57%, 25%).
So, +6 would mean using Swords Dance 3 times (+2 * 3 = +6) which ends up with you doing 4 times your normal damage. That's a lot. Pretty much useful for making your Pokemon go from "normal" strong to "I destroy you even though I got not very-effective~" strong.
The notable buff moves are:
Swords Dance (+2 Attack)
Nasty Plot (+2 Special Attack)
Agility (+2 Speed)
Amnesia (+2 Special Defense)
Barrier (+2 Defense)
Bulk Up (+1 Attack, +1 Defense)
Calm Mind (+1 Special Attack, +1 Special Defense)
Dragon Dance (+1 Attack, +1 Speed)
Defense Order (+1 Defense, +1 Special Defense)
It's why my BT team revolves around locking my opponent on turn 1 into a "useless" move, disabling them with Paralyze and destroying their Accuracy, and then sitting back and buffing myself (behind a Sub for Latios) until I one-shot everything without a care in the world.
As for good Fliers ... hrm. Gliscor (Ground / Flying), Altaria (Dragon / Flying), Staraptor (Normal / Flying), Crobat (Poison / Flying). If it's just for HMs, Tropius since it can learn 6 of the 8, though that is sadly his best use.
If it IS for Fly, though, Gliscor can't learn it >> He's just probably one of the best easy to get Flying types. Altaria is pretty easy to get I think (Swablu's on Route 210 North) and Crobat is just a fully evolved Zubat (final evolution via Happiness). God help you if you can't find a Starly/Staravia for a Staraptor~

[s]WHA I CANT FIND A STARAPTOR[/s] *shot, dead*
Yeah, I used that one in Pearl and it just seems the same as whatever-the-fuckPidgey was (Pidgetto? whatever) in Red. Boooooring, even if effective.
Hm. Maybe I'll use Tropius since, yeah, it is just for Fly. Fly and Surf are two HMs I like to have within my party, Fly super-especially, since they're pretty essential for just getting around.

I hate Fly as a move (two turns, weak) but Surf is awesome. One of the reasons I actually like Water Pokemon since I'm forced to have Surf and it is their best* attack. That and Starmie is awesome looking (shut up).
*Waterfall for Physical Waters >> Hydro Pump if you don't mind missing 99% of the time in Battle Zone.
And you mean Pidgeot? Staraptor is actually good, which is a fucking surprise since every other flying "starter" has sucked terribly. Staraptor is pretty much Pidgeot except with Special Attack/Special Defense all traded for Attack and Speed; makes logical sense since there's practically nothing in the Normal or Flying movelist that use SpA anyway >> Low SpD kind of hurts when Staraptor's main weakness is Lightning and Ice, both heavy in the SpA category. That and shoddy Defense to begin with.
Oh well. Noone is perfect.
Except Wobbuffet.
Yeah, Fly sucks as an actual attack, but it's hella useful for getting around the map. I'm not that fond of Noctowl -- was handy at first, but the lack of decent stats or moves kind of kills it. Hypnosis is useful for catching wilds, but impractical for actual battle. Dream Eater seems promising, but that's IF you get Hypnosis to land on the first or second turn, and I'd rather just deal out damage than fuck around with conditions and buffs. I'm a simple girl that way.
I agree, Staraptor is good. I liked using her in Pearl. But I'm trying to avoid using the same pokemon I did in Pearl for the fun-factor... (However I'm failing terribly using Luxray, Rapidash and Misdreavus, who were all in my Pearl line-up... but I just like them. Well, Luxray not so much)

They need to make more Physical Ghost attacks (...that ... that doesn't make any sense now that I type it out) so they can have some diversity. Otherwise, it's all going to be Gengar as a Special Attacker and Dusknoir, Spiritomb, and Rotom Appliance forms (GHOST REFRIGERATOR) for walls.
I really wish they'd stop introducing brand new Pokemon and work on fleshing out the crappy Pokemon with awful Evolutions and/or movesets. Like, Luxray could be pretty damn good if it had another Evolution that raised his Speed. That is pretty much the only reason he's never used.
...well, that and access to terrible moves >>. His best Physical attacks are Thunder Fang, though Thunderbolt would do more damage, Crunch and Return. Some use his 120 base Attack is doing
Anyway, they just need to stop making new Pokemon that suck.
And Hypnosis is amazing for "real" battles since there's no "oops guess I'll heal it haha~" as it has a good accuracy (70%) and can shut a Pokemon down long enough for either buffs to be done or to just kill it. Or force a switch. Though, yeah, for awhile I was just a "shit must die~" player but trying some competitive play and the Battle Zone changed that pretty fast. Fucking walls (and fuck Double Team on a Shuckle shit who thought that one up).
On another note, make the Eeveelutions stop sucking
Vaporeon and Jolteon are good (and Umbreon and Espeon are usable) but the rest are pretty awful.
Is it too much to ask to have more diversity in the metagame

Edit: Ha ... haha ... HAHAHA.
So, Kojima Productions had an announcement ... for a countdown. The countdown had a countdown ... for a countdown. That had a countdown ... for a countdown.
...hahaha...
...ha...
Oh, silly...
The new one has a countdown for 5 days as well as having "E" and "3" in the background. Seeing as E3 is more than 5 days, I have a feeling it'll be a countdown to a teaser about their big reveal at E3.
Edit: And an "e" and "S" in there. Oh boy. I hope the next countdown is a prequel to explain the countdowns.
And, at E3, they will reveal another countdown.

Seriously though, ZoE 3 for the PS3 come on plz plz plz.
I JUST REALIZED THIS HOUSE HAS A BUNCH OF DVD RECORDERS
This means I could like, record vidye geyms and stuff. :D Maybe I'll share some funny Brawl replays. :3
I also hooked up a Stupid Piece Of Shit That Doesn't Fucking Work to my teevee so it's easier to hook things up. Surprisingly the Dumb Box Thing actually worked on the first try.
