XSEED is localizing it.
It wasn't good.
And yeah, most of GAF figured SMT:SJ was going to be a DS game and Famitsu last night proved it. Pretty sure it's the Lancarse team (EO Devs) behind it but I'll have to double check.
Snippets from the article are:
Kaneko Kazuma for art, Shoji Meguro for music, Eiji Ishida as director, and Shogo Isogai as scenario writer.
>300 demons (of which 30 will be useful ... oh come on you know it to be true)
Demon Negotiation and Fusion are in. Alignment and moon phases as well.
First-person RPG; top screen for navigation, bottom screen for map.
Devil Co-op for combat system, not One More or Press Turn. Not sure on exact details (seems to be ... a co-op attack with demon when you hit a weakness).
Edit: Overview article at . Rather good read.
Incidentally, doesn't this make it the 5th (7th if you count NINE and Imagine, both not done by Atlus) game to carry the SMT moniker? Wonder if that means it's SMT4 or a side-story/spin-off like If?
Anyway, here's all six pages (size):

Edit: While I'm at it, there's another Atlus/Sting game for the DS: Yggdra Unison. No, not Union, Unison. It is not a remake of Union.
It's a remake of Unison, the mobile phone game that was a "what if?" scenario of Yggdra Union...
...
God damn it.
And some other Atlus/Sting game for the PSP I know little about beyond the name: Hexyz Force.

Hrm ... I didn't think the original Devil Summoner carried the moniker but looking at the original cover, it's right there ... hrm. Anyway, there's no plot relevance or anything just a curiosity at the use of the SMT title that they haven't used in, what, 5 years (Nocturne Maniax, though 1 year if we count Maniax Chronicle) that makes me wonder if it'll be SMT4: Strange Journey or like If (and Devil Summoner) of having the name but not being part of the numbered series. I'm guessing the latter as well but it doesn't change my anticipation for this.
Reading through GAF and other places on this announcement, you can pretty much tell the difference between old-school fans (or at least those who have played the older games) and the recent crowd. Much like the same can be said for any series that picked up popularity later in the game series (Final Fantasy, for instance). I really don't care what other people think though and I'm just thrilled at more SMT.
Looking over things, it definitely looks like they took the EO engine and assets (and probably the Lancarse team while we're at it) for this. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you.
Now, console SMT4 or Persona 5 please too?! COME ON. SPOIL ME.

I have to admit, an announcement for Shin Megami Tensei IV for the PS3 would make me very happy, assuming that SMTSJ is a return to form. I rarely ever use my PS3, but I'd like to.
Re: Lancarse team - No, that's not a bad thing at all. I remember hearing rumors about an SMT being developed by them, although I never took that rumor at face value. Glad to see that it was true.

If that pachinko site rumor is correct then there should be an announcement of a Persona 5 for the PS3 at some point in the near future.
Personally, once upon a time I probably would have scoffed at the idea of a first person dungeon crawler. Until I stumbled onto one that I really, really got into. I can't remember the name of it now. Had the word 'Odyssey' in the title I remember that much...
I seem to be in sarcasm mode today for some reason. Anyway, if the same group is working on this game, my interest in it has further increased and the setting seems pretty interesting to begin with.
The pachinko thing was more of an assumption that P5 was to be released on the PS3. Who knows, to be honest. The fact it got removed from the article makes it a bit more credible.
Only time will tell.
Or TGS.
And I doubt 7th Dragon is coming over. It's been awhile since it released and SEGA has released other games AND localized them (or are localizing them) since. I don't think SEGA lets others localize their games either, though I could be wrong.

I think the point of this is to preface their Strange Journey announcement for Summer 2010. It has to be.
Edit: That or Devil's Souls, which this still makes no sense since THE GAME WAS ALREADY IN ENGLISH.
Ace Attorney Investigation: Miles Edgeworth got a US Release Date finally ... February 16, 2010.
...long wait
Edit: Ryu ga Gotoku 4 announced. Already. Thanks for the localization of 3 SEGA!
Oh, wait...
Also, XBLA game prices dropping to 80, 240, and 400 SPACE DOLLARS ($1, $3, $5 respectively). Neat. Now no one has an excuse to not get Braid if you have a 360.
