I fucking hate downloadable content bullshit.
That is precisely the reason that Beautiful Katamari sucked so much; you just got the sense that you paid for an incomplete game. Well, there were many things wrong with that game, but yeah... too few levels with minimal variety.

DLC isn't a bad thing unless it's done inappropriately (i.e., stuff on the disc you're paying to unlock). Considering they've added less on ports of games, the Disgaea 3 DLC is actually a pretty nice addition.
DLC is not the problem. Badly done DLC is.
Valkyria Chronicles, for example, adds two extra story routes (Edy and Selvaria's Missions) and harder maps (EX Hard Mode). Well worth the price of admission.
On another note, Lords of Shadow trailer:

Good point, Scy. Beautiful Katamari, from what I understand, was of the "Unlock" variety. Additionally, if you have the DLC ready to go at game launch than I find it pretty bullshitty. It indicates that you shipped a game incomplete or purposefully diverted content in order to rake in additionally money.
Regardless, I still detest the idea of "Micropayment" in such a fashion. Like apparently you can pay $10 or whatever so your xbox icon is a lightsaber. Really? What the fuck people are stupid blahblah.
Incidentally, I'm approaching the end of Magical Starsign. Not good seeing as how Scribblenauts is still a few weeks off. That puts me in a bit of an awkward spot as I wouldn't have enough time to finish a game, but I don't want to start one and then drop it the second Scribblenauts comes out. Hmm...

I like DLC that add wothwhile things to to the game (Disgaea 3 extra modes, VC extra content) but I really don't get the Avatar/Home clothes and shit. Fuck, people care about that? Well, whatever, it's free content that gives them money I suppose.

I wouldn't mind DLC so much if the game was less expensive in the first place. Paying $60 for a game should buy you the whole game. If there is DLC it should be something that makes you think "OMG!!! there's more to this game? How can that be?"

Because, fact is, to get people to try things, a free ROM does more than "this game is good, go spend $X on it to find out!"

First, he doesn't live in the states.
Second, even if he was in the states, where the HELL are you going to find a copy of EO at a reasonable price?
Second, as Scy said, a free rom = here, try this out and see if you like it, though you've already stated you didn't like Dark Spire
Sometimes in order to create a fan, you have to sacrifice some things early on. Face it, the kid is 15 and has the current button-mashing approach to games.
The reasons he disliked Dark Spire: the graphics sucked. He turned it on and then turned it off. He was like "Ooooooooh, so that's what was up." when I explained to him that it was purposely giving credit back to the older generations of gaming. He didn't even know the game had a classic mode -_-;

For what it's worth, 6F is done poorly. The floor bleeds through when you move and it's distracting.

decided to reinstall Half Life 2 to actually beat it.
Also, roms are amazing. Especially when companies [s]like SEGA[/s] don't localize games I want to play. Take it from me, importing can get quite expensive, so roms of foreign games are always a nice alternative >_>
Besides, If you find that you really like the game you're pirating, BUY IT!
(Especially if it gets released in your area at a later date)

Not sure if it really could be classified as a game but... I've been playing with Flip Note Studio on the DSi. It's freak'n awesome! I probably spent 2 hours last night browsing through other peoples creations via wi-fi.

I don't think Atlus even sells new copies of Etrian Odyssey anymore, so that 15 years young gentleman would have to get a used copy if he wanted to take the "legitimate" route. And Atlus wouldn't profit from that anymore than they would if he just downloaded a ROM.
Also I'm playing Final Fantasy III.

Hey was Time Hollow any good? Noticed the (new) copy was sitting in the discount bin for under $20.

Yes, Time Hollow was pretty good. A bit linear, but nice nonetheless.
