I've been playing it on PC and, personally, I do find it to be BioWare's current best work if you like the whole "fantasy" background; moral choices aren't kept track of in terms of "oh look, I'm now far right on the fucknutpsycho bar better do some fucknutsaint stuff!" as much as just decisions that impact the game world (who's alive, who's with you*, and other things). Nothing omgmajorgamechanging as far as I've noticed* but ... yeah. Also, the companions are far more fleshed out (sans the dog >>) than KotOR or ME.
* (Spoilers averted for the most part but in here anyway)
There's some quests with a decision that will actually have people with you turn against you for choosing a certain way; a few decisions here and there will also change some course of events but it's more of how the event plays out to result A as opposed to now getting result B.
Then again, I've only done my one playthrough and I do know there's different endings so maybe I should hold off on that judgement call.
I will note that it is silly that some Class specializations should have some gameplay penalty but don't. Reaver and Blood Mage, notably; they're both so fucking frowned upon in the game (especially Blood Mage) that it seems a little stupid that the game doesn't seem to care if you go that route. Well, they sort of do if you unlock the spec in that playthrough through the quests (less so Blood Mage, actually) but still; figured there'd be a giant negative stigma for it but wasn't really.
As for gameplay, plays pretty much like what you'd expect a spiritual sequel to Baldur's Gate would play like; been doing the game on Hard as a Reaver/Berserker and leaning towards "okay, nice guy choices!" and it has been an enjoyable experience. The story isn't bad and I've been too lazy to read the codexs in the game, which pretty much amounts to an encyclopedia of Dragon Age lore (seriously, it's something like 200 pages long in total).
Not sure how "well" it handles playing on consoles, to be honest; I believe you lose the isometric/top-down/"ohiBaldur'sGate?" view but it should play fine otherwise ... though I am a little curious how the hell the hotbar/hotkey system works with this game.
Edit: I will say this though; not much to be done "tactically" on my Warrior run (with my DPS Warrior / Tank / Mage-CC-Healer / Archer) group compared to my friend's current Mage / Tank / Mage / Archer group ... but he does have only one melee and double CC. He spends a LOT more time than I do with the game paused and setting up targets and other things while I just set my NPC Tactics and micro small things (potions and CCing really).
Tank = The guy who takes hits
CC = Crowd Control
DPS = Damage per Second; just used as a catchall term for "guy who makes things dead" really.
For those who were confused with that I guess.
