Playing Suikoden Tierkreis for hours on end. This game is pretty good. The character 3D models are a bit blocky and they have goofy walks, but otherwise the art is great (backgrounds and monster models, anime cutscenes).
The story is also quite intriguing. With a huge cast of supposedly 108 warriors plus numerous supporting characters you can't expect too much background on every one of them, but there is definitely a lot more to them than FF characters.
Monsters are getting tougher now, so the gameplay/story segregation isn't as big as it was in the beginning ("we have to run, these monsters are way too strong for us" - huh? you just beat three of them in one turn..).

I'm feeling a little bored with Dofus the last few days. Aermyne is a new server, so good equipment won't be available until rarer resources become more common and crafters level up significantly. I've spent most of my kamas (IG money) on some generic spells and somewhat decent equipment, so now there's not much reason to use my professions except to level them. Dragoturkeys (mounts) are way overpriced and 1st-generation, so I won't be looking into getting one now that I'm at level 60 (needed to equip one). Playing an Osamodas (summoner class) is fun, but the next new summoning spell I won't get until level 80, so for now I can only level up my existing spells. Even with all the generic spells I acquired recently that isn't too exciting. All in all I'm not sure yet if I'll extend my one month subscription when it runs out in a week.

<_<;; I once got in MAJOR trouble for that. My parents took my game systems away from me for two weeks when they caught me. x_x I was devastated.

Didn't stop me. I remember once when I was playing through Ocarina of Time. I faked sick 'cause I knew that mom was going out that day. ^_^; Nothing like trying to go through the Forest Temple while keeping a constant ear out for a car pulling up into the drive way. o_O That place had a creepy atmosphere anyways. x_x I was also eternally scared by the Wallmasters - I had just gotten Navi's message about something on the ceiling when I thought I heard a car pull up. By the time I looked back at the screen something fell on top of me and pulled me back to the beginning. Scared the shit out of me.

I don't care if it's a real part of the series, Suikoden Tierkreis is absolutely great. Really, there is so much detail everywhere. With 108 recruitable characters not everyone has a lot of background, but even the least backgrounded characters are still on par with some Final Fantasy characters. The story is great, the trading/item system is fun, the backgrounds/environments are beautiful, the monsters are very detailed (even recycled monster types have different appearances), the music is very good (some of it reminds me of Yasunori Mitsuda's work), the sounds are also nicely detailed (footsteps sound different on varying surfaces for example), and there are oodles of side-quests (and not just for recruiting characters either). I don't know if the voices are that bad. They do suffer a little from compression, but otherwise they're just American English. American accents are often a little grating on the ears, but that's not a fault of this game. I think this is one of the best RPGs I've played yet. The only big flaw is that despite the tons of characters, you can't change the main character. With this much attention to detail, it seems stupid that you can't even choose between a female and male main character. When will game developers stop neglecting half their audience?

It's more of an annoyance due to the fact of all the games so far (I-V, Tactics, and the VNs) are all a single timeline ... and then there's Tierkreis which throws everything Suikoden related out the window after all these years of waiting for the next Suikoden game. It's a solid game, yes, just more of a disappointment of not continuing the series as it's one of the few RPGs that has an ongoing story (I-III are direct sequels while IV and V are in the past fleshing out backstories of certain major characters in the later games).

Plus they abandon all the Suikoden game mechanics (Runes, Castle, the 1-on-1 Duels, and the Wars). Does it detract from the game for non-fans? No, not really; for fans of the series, however, it pretty much stripped out nearly everything Suikoden related. Whether or not that is bad is up to them; personally, it makes me a bit sad that there hasn't been a real Suikoden sequel still since there's so much room for the story (Harmonia, missing True Runes, etc.).
And I found the dub to be pretty bad, if only for the laughable delivery and how rushed some of the lines are given (the MC rushes through his dialogue, for example). There's a lot of characters and it shows that some skimping on voices were done as some are just awful.

And as for the MC, the game is based off of the original legend hence the MC remaining male. I still fail to see how a lack of a female MC option is neglecting half an audience but I suppose I'm in the "non-neglected" camp and blahblahblah.

Personally, a choice in male/female, outside of an independent story, doesn't really add a huge dynamic to the game (i.e., look at WRPGs with your choice of Male/Female lead). If it's just a flavor choice, it's a non-issue to me; I'll pick whichever I prefer and whatever. If the game remains the same then it's overall pointless; I'd rather one set MC so other character roles can be done to a better extent in regards to them (i.e., SV's MC and Lyon relationship or Roy's character in general, Riou/S2 and Nanami)

Plus, two Tenkai stars would be wtf. The 108 characters has a significance, not just a "we wanted a large cast of characters." Though, considering how little is expanded on some characters (lacking the Wars makes this more apparent), the characters that truly add nothing really do seem like "+1 character!"
Though, on the Male/Female choice:
Suikoden II and V have a fairly strong female secondary (Nanami and Lyon) that are there throughout the entire game and, due to the mute hero, serve a huge role in your development through the game. There's very few times they are not present and you're almost always forced to use them (and even if you aren't, they're pretty much god-tiers in the game, especially Lyon in SV).

SIII gives you the option of choosing who is the main character of sorts between three options (there's three main stories, one extra one [sort of, as he's the Tenkai Star of the game so he's the unifying force] but you choose one of those three to be the ultimate leader of it all). There's a canon-ish choice (one of the guys) but you can choose Chris if you want.
[s]so was the Persona series a disappointment to SMT fans :?[/s]

EDIT: bad example. A better one would be if Metal Gear Acid was a disappointment for MGS fans or something

I mean, spinoff games
