I meant support classes as in characters who support other group members who do the actual hitting. They would get hardly any XP with this scheme because they're not the ones who deal damage (instead they heal or buff/debuff or crowd control or summon).

There is NO class that is like that. VT, when he started playing, was also looking for a support class, but there's none. Not in that way. There are classes that can do buffs, but that's it. There is no healing of actual characters ([s]I think there's one skill that some class has that does that, but I'm not sure[/s] Oh, no wait, there is, I remember: one person healed when when I was in a PvP session XD allowed me to win). Seriously, though, you do not stop to heal others in this game. Way too fast paced.
The buff classes are Wizard and I believe Force Archers. You want to help your party members? Kill the monsters around them. - Hell, stand beside them. Monsters go after the one with the highest attack power. That's why partying is so crucial. If a level 30 follows a level 50 around, the monsters will attack the level 50 and gives teh level 30 the chance to kill them - they just have to watch that they don't get too far away. Seriously! I've done it. There's even a whole channel for newbies where you can even go in to help others like that.
The different classes:

I have Cabal downloaded but I've only been able to play once. All the other times, I'm unable to connect to the server.

Sampson, when did you download the game? before April 1st? From Ogplanet (a black-themed layout)?
Did you know that the game has switched owners? You now have to download the patch, sign up on the new website, and transfer your account. Otherwise, you will be unable to connect to the servers.
Here's your hint: if the splash screen is snowy white and says "Happy New Years" you need to download the patch.
If the splash screen is brown and says Cabal Reloaded, we'll revisit this discussion.
Again, patch for the OGplanet file can be found at
http://www.cabal.com/DownLoad/Client (along with the full game client)<-- I'm sure the site looks new with the white and blue theme.

FFIV on the PSX is so hard... but that's cause I'm severely underleveled.
And the DS version is harder? ffffffffffffffffffff
