PB and MK are both pretty bad compared to the Disgaea games, personally. The quirky-ness is still present but the combat mechanics are just done better in Disgaeay. Then again, it is their flagship title so ...
Really, it depends on why you didn't like PB and MK though. Disgaea is very post-game heavy and much of the content is really perfectionist stuff (improving characters, equipment, etc.). That's just sort of the staple for their SRPGs though.
Edit: And just to note, it doesn't take forever to actually do the perfecting of stuff once you know what to do. It's just a lot of stuff to do and it's honestly very, very repetitive.
DQIX sort of has it with the revocation mechanic (similar-ish to the Reincarnation/Transmigration mechanic in Disgaea) but not as useful as Disgaea'sl. Not super-amazing-awesome useful but more useful than it is in DQIX. Well, besides improving Grotto levels.

PB and MK were AWESOME, in my opinion. But they were very different than the Disgaea games.
Disgaea is grid-based, while MK and PB (and apparently Makai Wars) are grid-free, and something about the grid-free system made for a very enjoyable experience.
While I do prefer the grid-based system in Disgaea, I think that MK and PB had more... charm, if you will, that kept me addicted.
Also, as stated many times before, I love NIS's music <3

(Wow, one of my favorite songs in MK, and it's not by Tenpei Sato)

Well, keep getting clobbered by bosses... apparently in DQ9
you can collect the fyggs in any order, and I got the second last one before the 3rd last one... which explains why that boss was really hard, and the next was easy... x__X
And the wireless is that good? Nice, I'll get my friend and cousin to pick it up...
And for the record, theif class is mostly useless. they are fast, but it's hardly worth it, unlike in EOII how the agility actually makes you significantly faster and harder to hit. and the skills are next to useless untill waaay up...
Thieves themselves aren't a great class but, hey, they give you Half-Inch.
And Agility does work with turn order, it just takes a monstrous amount to make a difference (since we're on a 1-999 scale) and you'll get most of it from the passive bonuses that carry over from other classes.
Edit: And, hell, Agility is relatively useless in EO2 due to the Weapon SPD Multiplier mechanic. That greatly overshadows actual Agility benefits, really.

Spoilers for Persona3
So, I'm kinda miffed. Spent today playing Persona3 Portable. Now, I got the first S.Link on Shinji opened - actually it was a "o_o oh, wow! what the hell, you're an S.Link?" moment when the option appeared and I was curious to see. So it opened up but... I avoided the character. Actually I wasn't a very big Shinji-fan. To me he was just himself, though the video recording showed one cute side to him.
I avoided him because I knew his fate. But then I had no other S.Link options at one point and instead on working on one of my stats, I decided to click Shinji again when I saw he was free. :O I ended up absolutely falling in love with his scenes!! So much so that I went out of my way to try to get all of them even though I knew it was gonna be a close call.
T-T I got up to S.Link 9 and the next day had the mission. Seriously miffed. Dunno what I'm more miffed about: that I didn't hang out with him sooner or that I wasted the time... though I'm sure the S.Link stats will be nice when creating new Personas but still. I coulda spent more time on other stuff.
I'm a big fan of ShinjixFeMC now :3 ... so depressed.
I won't get to see his final scene until I finish the game and play through it again. *sigh* Guess I have my incentive. DAMMIT TO HELL!!! GYAAAAAAH!! *goes to look up fanart of the two*
I wonder if Ryoji's gonna be an S.Link as well.... also I was gonna make Junpei my boyfriend but since Chidori arrived he's not been available. :\ And all my other S.Links are female! o_O; ...
Oh gosh... I'm not gonna have a boyfriend this round, am I? Should I work on Hideyoshi's link. I started it... I think it's like only at 3. This late in the game... should I bother... Fuuka is almost done as well as Yukari's. I guess I'll think about it.
Sorry, had to rant :3
What the hell... the game on Normal has been a "breeze" compared to FES. But
Fortune+Strength bosses STILL fucking kicked my ass pretty hard. T-T I'M NO GOOD AT YOUR FUCKING ROULETTE GAME YOU PIECE OF SHIT!! At one point my whole team is berserked, I deal some nice damage to Strength but Ayate (FeMC) takes a bad hit that leaves her with 1 FUCKING HP POINT LEFT.... YES, THAT'S 1!! O_O And she comes out of berserk mode miraculously at that point and I save my ass. Too close... that was way too close.... T-T
