I don't get the hate FFXIII gets on the interwebz. I really, really don't. "OH NOS IT'S LINEAR" fuck you, every RPG is basically linear. The game is fun, the plot is relatively decently paced, and it looks quite nice. Ironically, the worst section of FFXIII are the open-world bits.

Edit: Not directed at you in particular Apollon but the entirety of Black Friday week had FFXIII on sale and a lot of backlash on GAF, CAG, and other places. It's not a terrible title. At least not compared to FFXII anyway.

@Illuminage: I'm an asshole, it happens. If it makes you feel any better, I hate everyone, everything they stand for, and pie.

@Apollon: I've been planning to get around to RoF it's just that there's been other things higher on my priority list (i.e., life). The game looked entertaining and I quite liked what little I did play. It or Magna Carta 2 are probably my next backlog RPG titles. My problem is I buy games and put them at the front of the backlog pile (if not just ... finish them when I get them).

As for Kingdom Hearts ... *shrugs* They're fun. The combat system is rather entertaining. It's a tad on the "lolz wat is difficulty?" side which is a bit annoying for an ARPG title (as they typically are the only RPGs I find can be challenging).

I liked Final Fantasy XII.

Then again, I completely loved Final Fantasy Tactics, so of course I did.

Hoping they bring the true job system of 3, 5 and Tactics back for 15.

Tactics is my favorite FF game as well (and then 6, for the record). I still just couldn't bring myself to liking FFXII since the actual game wasn't that fun. I keep going back to trying to do a replay but I just keep getting distracted by other titles.

@Scy: A review I read somewhere put it quite well, I don't remember where it was off the top of my head, but it was something like: most RPG are linear, but they at least give the illusion of freedom. FFXIII does not. It basically is corridor, corridor, corridor, oh look one small, obviously dead end branch off, corridor, corridor.

There are also no towns, or anything other than corridors basically. The combat system also sucks. At least previous Final Fantasies let me attack->attack->attack... but XIII doesn't even let me do that. Now it's Autobattle add infinitem in every fight. Plus the PS system sucks. Oh, and dub only games piss me off too, It's something that, for me, makes even great games (SO:IV, ToV) barely tolerable. I only still play Dissidia because the gameplay is so damn addictive. If you havn't seen it yet, Zero Punctuation's review of the game is hilarious and, from memory, pretty accurate, except when he starts ripping on turn-based combat (still funny though)

@Maxine: I don't want to start a big thing (which will probably happen, because I'm not passionate about anything moreso than my hate for KH), but I think I can quickly sum up my thoughts on the matter.

The game consists of idiotic children beating each other up with large keys. The game has Disney characters and yet still expects me to take it seriously. Then it has the gall to include Final Fantasy characters, which in any other game would increase the cool factor, but in this case severley lowers it (I mean Sephiroth and GOD DAMN MICKEY MOUSE in the same game, WTF!). Pokemon may be childish, but KH is just stupid. And somehow, adults everywhere love it? I worry about humankind sometimes...

Lets bash EVERYBODY in ItL! Better yet, the FORUM MASTER. It'll be FUN! /Sharcasm
