Points of no Return kind of suck, especially if there's not a giant disclaimer before it going "HEY GUYZ..." to kind of tell you about it. Especially with as many missables as GS:DD has (DJINNSDJINNSDJINNS and Summons).
It's still a bit annoying that they crafted such a good combat system ... and there's nothing to use it on. That said, I stopped playing/got distracted about half way through the game. The dungeon I had just finished was a let-down: [hide]Ouroboros; tons of in-game hype on it and then it's a fairly linear dungeon with no boss and easy enemies ... wait, what?[/hide]
Also, Ys Oath in Felghana ... bosses are a lot easier when you actually try hitting them. Hit a brick wall on Istersiva ... until I realized you hit him [hide]in the "head" when he releases the crystals[/hide]. Derpderp. Felt like a complete idiot trying to just Charged Fire Ring shots all day. Thankfully, it was only like 5 or so attempts in but still >>

I was listening to the Panzer Dragoon Orta OST today and had the sudden urge to play it, for the first time in years, so I did and it would appear that all my skills have gone down the drain. I only got "Gladiator" Rank (86 or 87% Shot Down Ratio, any difficulty ) on normal difficulty, and I came very close to death a bunch of times. I almost felt like crying afterwards.
After that slap in the face, I was reminded of the 3 - 4 months I did nothing but try to get the "Winged Death" Rank (100% Shot Down Ratio, must be on Hard difficulty), which I, of course, never got and still swear is impossible, though some people claim to have gotten it. Best I ever got on hard was "Dragoon Warrior" (95% Shot Down Ratio, Normal or Hard difficulty), but I should easily be able to at least "Lunatic" (90% Shot Down Ratio, any difficulty) normal.
On a more positive note, the game was just as fun as I remembered, maybe even more so, because I didn't remember exactly where every single enemy comes from, and was playing for fun rather than obsessing over shoooting down every single enemy and collecting all the Gene Bases.
The atmosphere in this game is so beautiful. Everything from the music (one of my favourite scores in a game) to the graphics (even if they are technically outdated now) to the stage/character design is incredible, and the fact that they developed a unique language just for the Panzer Dragoon series really helps with the immersion. Replaying this game has really made me remember why it is in my top 10 favourite games of all time. I think the fact that I love this game so much is probably why I've been so devestated by losing my skills at it.
