Not bad.
I think you're misunderstanding me. I've never said CT wasn't a very good game; all I'm claiming here is that when I was 10 hours into the other games I named, I'd had a much more fulfilling experience in nearly every way.
At this point, the only theme I've really enjoyed much was the 1000 AD overworld theme. I don't remember any of the other ones, and at best they struck me as okay. Contrast this with other classics. FF4 is one game I think had a consistent output of grandiose, memorable themes, so while the material you linked to may be excellent, that doesn't mean the soundtrack as a whole measures up.
I'm not bashing Chrono Trigger. But the greatest rpg of all time should really be blowing me away 10 hours in. This game isn't, or at least not like the ones I named. My reaction to it is a bit like my reaction to Golden Sun: solid and entertaining, but I've played better. And I don't give a damn about any of the characters yet. Maybe that will change.

o_o I don't get how you can NOT like it?
When I first fired up CT I was thinking:
Ooh... evil mage... 300 years ago... GEE I WONDER WHO THE FUCKING VILLAIN IS... and now I have to chase him back and forth through time because Lucca fucked up.
But then... there was the battle system. Slick, fun, fast, and the attacks were just fucking awesome.
Music was fun (but I admit I was not awed by it, but it had its moments)
AND THEN, I saw the video of Lavos. o_o THE REAL VILLAIN!! ..... HOLY SHIT?!! THIS GAME FOOLED ME! ...... I LOVE THAT BOSS!! .......
It was different. It wasn't an evil sorcerer. It wasn't some villain I had to go chasing clear across the world after (I played CT after FF7). And it was the first time I truly liked a turned based strategy game - because honestly the sprites MOVED. Oh and there were no OMG RANDOM ENCOUNTER - hell you can avoid the battles if you are slick enough to do so.
And the storyline is just the best. Though, I TOTALLY hated the prehistoric zones. :\ Aya(or whatever he name is) does not get much love from me.

was fun and looks very nice. I admit I looked up the solution to the gomoku mini-game. The other mini-games were doable, although I think it would've been better if such mini-games weren't present. Some aspects of Machinarium (genre, setting, some story elements) remind me of .

Sadly enuff I like chrono trigger, however I know its definatly not the best. It does hold a special place in my heart as my first rpg. I agree though that it is dated. This still has not stopped me from buying it every time they rerelease it. I wish they would at least make a graphicaly improved game though.
Btw I hate chrono cross.

A game does not worsen with age. Either it is good or not; either you enjoy it or not. Graphics are relevant only insofar as the chosen style is effective and conveys the proper atmosphere. Thus, we can say Mega Man has a more effective visual style than, say, the latest Tony Hawk game, regardless of technology or age.
I really don't get this "dated" thing.
Chrono Trigger is not the best IMO simply because there are more effective games out there. Some (Phantasy Star) predate it; some (like Skies of Arcadia) are younger. It is still very good.
Either way, I'm playing Angry Birds right now. Does that even count?

All this CT talk reminds me of when I was dinking around with the enemy stats on the SNES version via a couple editors I found online to make the game tougher. Kinda funny how nasty I made Guardian with simple stat tweaks and nothing more
.
That being said...
Touhouvania 2 - Just finished this game today. Not a 1cc clear obviously, but my first game over on a serious attempt ended at the first form of the final boss.
When I tried again after boosting the max lives count to 20 (Yay for stage select).
First form went by fairly smoothly after figuring out crap.
Second round...easier than the first.
Final form...OH GEEZ THE PAIN THE PAIN THE PAIN!!! This boss basically ramps up the damage to Mega Man Zero 3 boss levels where you die in 3-4 hits. I believe the spellcard this boss dishes out, if it hits you, wipes about 60% of your health in a single blow. Yeah, not fun.
Final form also has a crapload of HP so figuring out the pattern is vital.
Easily a step up from the first game in all regards. Remixed songs from the first Touhouvania here= win. Stage 6 theme is awesome as hell.
Also...the stage 3 boss's portrait is all kinds of awesome and badassery.
Dead Space - Finished my Impossible Mode run a few days ago. Last chapter was fairly rough, but hardly anymore hair pulling then what I've gone through.
I found it hilarious that I killed the one Black Brute on this level quicker than I've ever done so before
.
Final boss...died like 4 times because I essentially got chain hit to death, then realized I could cheese out its attack pattern and make it a joke like a certain boss fight from MMZ1.
Now I've got 24 days until the 2nd game comes out. Really looking forward to playing that one.
Might & Magic Book I - Finally got my party to a point where I won't get horridly violated by most of the monsters. The start of the game...brutal as freaking hell. Once you can grind Wyverns though, it's easy to grind to level 8. They cough up nice xp (At least 1500+ a fight), drop tons of gold (I think I have well over 100k now spread amongst my team), and fork over some nice treasure too.
Now that my team is level 8, I can start working on the main quest finally
. Thank god for the maps, hintbook, and a LP on lparchive.org too.

"I never cared about justice, and I don't recall ever calling myself a hero..." Zero, Mega Man Zero 4

I've been playing Fallout 3... So, my character's named Faux, and after getting out of the Vault, I was asked by my brother why I chose a girl. Wel, aside from "Black Widow" being a useful perk (how many male enemies do you face?), look at her hair: IT'S PINK. So, I aptly renamed her, "My Little Ball of Sunshine."
