Well, today I bought a pokemon leafgreen version from a friend...
However, he didn't mention that it didn't work...
So, after looking a while, I couldn't seem to find a ROM for it (Its perfectly legal if you own the game I think, besides, thats another issue.)
I talked to a friend about it over YM and he gave me a link.
Apparently he duped me and I got instead. So now, I'm playing moemon leafgreen...weee.
I WOULD change it myself, but at this point I don't really care. My only concern is that if anyone sees me playing this They'll think I'm some sort of weirdo.
Oh, and Maxine, I chose Jupiter, oops.
And I'm playing , its epic.

Okay, Mercury it is. I'm going to go on now and see if I can figure this game out.
Edit: Okay, I just went to connect and there are 20 different channels per server. Does it matter which one I choose. Sorry for the stupid question, but I've never played an MMO before.

^_^ No, it's not a stupid question, Apollon.
Servers are not changeable (and don't worry, googly, I've got a character on Mercury channel if you ever wanna hang out... unless she got turned off, but I don't mind making another character) so you are stuck with the one that you have unless you pay money to ESTsoft or something in the Item Shop.
As for "channels" these can be changed whenever (particularly when they are getting overcrowded and there's a strange slow down going on... or there's too many people in one spot and you aren't able to get the kills that you need).
The colored channels at the top of the list have PK'ing disabled. The very first channel (unless it changed) is the "newbie" channel. Just for you to go in and feel free to ask all the dumb questions you want. I can't promise someone will always answer your questions but you'll be more inclined to find that someone in there. (It is marked as the newbie channel so you'll know it when you see it)
The white channels are PK'ing enabled. A person can (and sometimes will) kill you. They get punished for this, though.
The very last channel is called the Nation/War Channel (and is marked as such). Going in there and killing monsters earns you honor points (needed for crafting and purchasing certain items). HOWEVER, PK'ing is encouraged in here. Procyons and Capellas go after each other in this channel. ^_^; You'll sometimes enter a town and discover there's a crowd of people out to kill you. If you do not have a nation yet - you are PK fodder. There are no penalties for PK'ing or being PK'ed, so don't sweat it.
Those of other nations when you are in war channels and war zones are scrambled out. You can't even talk to them. It comes up garbeled. If you have no nation yet (you can't choose until you've been in Port Lux for a while) everyone will be a mystery to you. I said "war zones": in later maps, these are zones that act just like the channel. Don't worry about them. Not until you're in the 100s.
When you level up you can "shout" to people in a channel. I think there is a way to shout into another channel but I've never done it (never been interested). Whispering/PMing lets you chat to whoever no matter what channel they are on as long as they are in your server.

Ok, so I guess I'll stay away from the white channels for now, given that I wouldn't be able to defend myself with no experience and a level 1 character, but I am quite interested in PvP when I get stronger.

Well I just made my character and I laughed pretty hard at the options avaliable. All of the face types look ridiculous, and most of the hair styles do too, with the colours avaliable anyway. My character's name is Soichiro, just gave him the first name that popped into my head; he looks stupid anyway. Edit: Oh yeah, I ended up going Force Blader.
Then I did that 'find out where some of the NPCs are' quest, and was told to equip my helmet, which I'd already done, since my first instinct upon entering the game was to check my inventory. Next the guy told me to go kill some mantises, with no explanation as to how to fight or even leave town mind you. So I went "okay..." and, having no idea where to go, I chose the path that looked like it might lead out of town and some big green thing ran up to me and 1-shotted me...
Oh, and some people, myself included, seem to randomly go invisible.
Edit 2: Also, whilst trying to navigate the town I kept getting stuck on invisible walls.
Edit 3: Now I can't even sign in. The client starts fine, but when I go to sign in everything locks up. I can use the shift key to toggle caps on the on-screen keyboard and that's it. It won't register any other input and alt+F4 doesn't even work. When I open Task Manager, it automatically closes, and won't even open the client again until I reboot.
Edit 4: After about 5 restarts it let me in again after which point I was greeted with this screen for a few minutes:

When it finally let me in, I found the right path and came across a bunch of mantises. So I clicked on one, then on normal attack. Nothing happened except the normal attack icon disappeared. So I tried clicking on the next skill on the list which turned my cursor into that icon, which I then clicked on the mantis with. My character ran up to the mantis and proceeded to beat the crap out of it, while it stood there looking like an idiot. However its health never went down. I tried to walk away, but then the mantis disappeared, some item was there in its place and I took about 10 lots of damage at once. I tried to run away, but then fell over dead for no reason... This is why I tend to avoid online games.

o_O that's very weird Apollo. Hrrm.
I dunno, but maybe some suggestions, do you have a firewall or anything on? but I don't think this is really your problem but still I heard that firewalls cause a lot of issues with this game.
Also, before you load the game, go into options and turn the settings down. Unless you got a nice slick computer optimized to the hilt, Cabal runs very sluggish
I have the following settings:
MultiSampling: off
Rendering Distance: 3
Gama 1.13
Shadow Effect: Player
Water Effect: 2 (this is the WORST)
Effect: Show All
Blur Soft
And I allow rain and distortions
Now, the last paragraph, I know EXACTLY what the fuck you are doing. You do NOT NOT NOT left-click the icons. Actually, make sure the toolbar is locked so you don't accidentally move the icons off the bar. You CAN right-click, however the best way to play Cabal is to use your mouse to quickly target the monsters, and with your other hand, press the keys (1-10, -, + or F-10 works too I think). Usually all you need to do is click the skill attack once and the game takes over but sometimes the monster moves out of range or a skill is cancelled out because you needed MP to be filled but your MP icon had not fully reloaded yet which causes your attack to stop. Also, make sure in the settings the auto-attack is on and allow for "normal attacks".
Now as for the sudden "it was alive and then dead - then I'm dead!" this is called a "lag". Happens to me on occassion. It happens, ESPECIALLY when they are doing work on the game servers. ^_^;; there was one time that monsters were not dieing AT ALL!! but I was still getting credit for their death.
All that happened is that the game lagged and then it caught up super quickly - and you died. If this becomes a frequent problem then we've got some issues (and I think your settings need turned down). This is a BIG reason you want to get out of an overly full channel. If you want to go test the game really nice in an empty channel to see if there is a problem with lag or something else, go to the War Channel. It is the least used channel for obvious reasons, which is far more convenient sometimes, just you know the warnings - if someone sees you, they might kill you ^_^; not a big deal (usually they are only in the towns).
BTW, yeah, you'll get oneshotted a LOT. You are just beginner afterall. Until level 10 you do not even receive a death penalty, so there is no wrong in being killed. Just be patient and stay away from monsters that are rednamed.
