So I started playing Bullestorm last night because A) Why not and B) Fuck, see A. It is probably the most fun I've had with an FPS in a long time. Yes, it's crass and immature ("I WILL KILL YOUR DICK") but goddamn if it's not a fun as hell adrenaline ride of non-stop trigger pulling killing dudes tongue-in-cheek over-the-top this sentence makes no sense but I don't care action.

The following is purely stream of conscious and I take no responsibility for the amount of dick jokes it'll end up having.
[spoiler]Yes, the game is foul-mouthed and swears every other word ("I WILL FUCKING KILL YOUR DICK" "WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!") but, fuck it, I'm pretty foul-mouthed anyway. And I don't give a shit that the game goes through them so damn often you think they're those fucking Girl Scout Thin Mints (shit man, ever see those things last? Fuck no).

Yes, you play a giant walking man made out of two by fours, bricks, and he secretes pure fucking man, testosterone, and abs. The dialogue is a lot of macho WE ARE HARDCORE MEN talk (even the token female it seems, though I'm not far enough to have her saying much besides that she will kill my dick). But, it's literally too much. I measured it and it broke the tools. It's so over-the-top that it's pretty obviously not meant to be taken seriously. Whether it's tongue-in-cheek, a parody, or whatever, just roll with the punches.

I will stop to note that the game looks great. A colorful world, though it is a UE game so, again, shithouses made out of brick players.

So, really, why do I enjoy it so? Because it's downright fucking fun. Holy shit was it entertaining as hell last night. This is not some cover-based FPS, though there are chest high walls and cover but fuck it, nobody cares about that. This game plays out more like an arcade-y shooter than a console shooter. You move fast, you aim fast, ammo is common, and you deal damage like a monster and take damage like a beast (seriously, on Hard I don't really think I can die).

This is not a slow shooter, no sir. Fuck your chest-high walls. Sprint the fuck in, kick a guy in the face, leash a guy behind him, and then shoot them in the dick (+500). +500? Yeah. You get points for kills. Every single enemy I see as a giant pile of points. You're mowing down guys left and right and you're left with the oh-so-satisfying sight of "+25 Headshot" or "+100 Voodoo Doll [Kick an enemy into spikes]" or "+100 Rear Entry [Kill an enemy by shooting them in the ass]". Gunplay is fun because it triggers this sort of fondness one has for high scores. Plus it's visceral and rewarding to charge some dudes, latch a bomb to a guy, kick him into a group, leash a barrel closer to them, and blow it all up for a satisfying carnage and rain of body parts and a screen filled with the game rewarding you for being fucking awesome.

It's not just a scoreboard, though. Dick-shooting points double as the in-game currency which lets you upgrade weapons with more ammo capacity and charged shots (which are basically secondary fires) as well as letting you buy ammo, though I've yet to really find a need to buy regular ammo but I'm also like ... two hours in. Even without this, though, it's still just fun as hell to kill dudes for points and to see what better dude killing you can do.

Besides that, the game sort of starts slow (comparitively speaking, an. For about 15 minutes. Then it's non-stop hit the ground running shit something happened fuck shoot that in the face WHERE DID THAT COME FROM oh fuck RUNRUNRUNRUN KICK THAT OH GOD SHOOT MORE action. Hell, I only stopped because I realized it was like midnight and I really needed to sleep because of work. My new mouse (+ mousepad) come in tonight so let's see if that helps my rapid aiming a bit better.

It's not a game for everyone, sure. But anyone who enjoys the occasional FPS should give the game a try. It's from People Can Fly and they had a gun that shot shurikens and lightning in their last game (Painkiller) and that alone means buy everything they ever make. Seriously though, it's fast, frantic, and the skillshot system rewards you for dick shooting. What the fuck are you doing not playing this.[/spoiler]

Started up PSO again. Somehow, I am even better at it now than I was 6+ months ago, despite having played nothing like it since. Good feeling.

Finished InFamous. I quite liked it, but I'll wait until the second one goes down in price before I get it.
