should I play the other Mother games first

Mother "3" is just the title, noodles. It's actually #2 and comes after Earthbound.

no because Earthbound was Mother 2

??? There was a game before Earthbound? .... <_<; before Ness?

XD Leave me alone! It's not one of my best nights, ok. If it had been any other night, I would have done a quick google search and answer some of my own questions.

MOTHER = Famicom, though "EarthBound Zero" roms exist and it's my second favourite in the series. Characters are primarily Ninten, Ana and Loid with followers like Teddy and Eve occasionally. It's the most difficult in the series (unless you grind) and has the second strongest story out of the three.

MOTHER 2 = You know this one, Ness and friends. Unrelated to #1. Weakest story out of the three but still very memorable.

MOTHER 3 = My personal favourite featuring Lucas,[spoiler]Kumatora, Duster and Boney. By far the strongest presence of story; the game is broken up into many chapters, the initial chapters having different protagonists. There are very few references to MOTHER 2/EarthBound and there is little of the story intact other than the antagonist is a character from MOTHER 2 but said character's motives are completely unrelated.[/spoiler]
