The difficulty in the Spy is more about the player's personality versus experience.

Good Spies have patience. This does not mean inaction. Disregard those scrubby Cloak & Dagger Spies who spend several minutes doing absolutely nothing. Cloak & Dagger is a play style, but it is also inactive and only really good for comp settings where sitting around all match to get a Medic pick is worth it. It is either the Invis Watch (my favourite) or the Dead Ringer (if you want to kill players more than disrupt the objective) if you really want to thrive in a public game. The Invis Watch is nice, because it teaches you how to make the most out of every route and memorize maps down to the minute details.

Another inherent trait of the player that makes for good Spy play, is a good sense of psychology. Knowing what people are looking for, where they will be, and how they respond.

In other words, to be a good Spy, you need to be an expert at the game already. It's on another level.

No. I said the exact opposite of that. Experience with the game goes as far as making you better at knowing the maps. The other traits, like patience, are inherent traits. I did not have any problems with playing as Spy out of the box. By this very same token, some people will never become good Spy if they cannot find a play style that suits them. Even though classes like the Heavy and Medic are easy to play, I am relatively terrible at them because of the way I am.

Yeah, true enough. I don't think I have that kind of on-the-ground, behind-enemy-lines patience and nerve to handle Spy. I seem to be more suited to middle ground stuff like Medic, Huntsman Sniper and Gunslinger-Justice Engineer.

Mm. Dat Gunslinger. Though I prefer the vanilla shotgun and pistol... mostly because the vanilla shotgun is probably my favourite weapon in the game. Every time I kill a fresh Medic or Demoknight with two shots, I feel like Duke Nukem.

From the day the Pyro update came out, it has always been the class for me. The compression blast has everything I want out of a character: control of the enemy, protection of myself and my team, and a way to isolate people so I can violate them in deep, dark, corners.
