Assault Horizon has nothing in it that made me love the previous Ace Combat games, I'm sad to say. Ace Combat is about a world of myth and superscience and mighty aces, and this is just Call of Duty in the sky, complete with regenerating health. Close combat is now practically on rails. The story is boring, emotionless, and predictable. The helicopter sections are just shooting galleries (except for the one in Moscow, that was alright), and the gunship section is taken straight from Call of Duty. Planes are given to you, so collecting replay value is gone. Pre- and post-mission sitreps are gone. The music, even though it's from my beloved Keiki Kobayashi, is lackluster and uninvolved.

The only thing the "game" has going for itself is the visuals and the slight challenge of hitting the right things in the on-rails sections on time. There was enough to keep me interested until the end, but ultimately I'm going to forget about this game, and that makes me feel alienated as someone loyal to this series.
