No, you're assuming that. Ange (and Maria) are both titled a Beatrice. That's their actual name from the VN and the Anime. ???-Beatrice, for Game 1, is put as that simply because there is no Beatrice shown in the Physical World, just the voice at the end. She may or may not be there like she is in Games 2+ so she's just ???-Beatrice. That's just what I decided to call her.

The rest are the official namings of the characters (Suit-Beatrice / Piece-Beatrice from Game 2, Eva-Beatrice from Game 3, Maria-Beatrice, Ange-Beatrice, and Suit/Piece-Beatrice from Game 4) that appear in the arcs. The only one we really need to know anything about is Suit-Beatrice (Game 2 and 4) since Maria and Ange identities and reasons for existing are obvious.

Well, that and I guess ???-Beatrice from Game 1.

Edit: The actual requirements to be a -Beatrice is to possess the Endless Magic, for the record. For now, those that possess it are Maria (Game 3, Game 4), Ange (Game 4), and Eva (Game 3, Game 4).

Maria has the power in 3 due to Game 4's world being a continuation of Game 3. Ange does not due to her throwing aside her power until 1998 (Game 4).

On an unrelated note, why are Eva-Beatrice's furniture the Siestas? They're Maria's toys. I mean, it could be as simple as Eva buying them and giving them to Maria but, in that case, would the Endless Magic extend to allowing her to revive them (like Rosa would be able to revive Sakutarou since it is her creation) or not since ... you know, she didn't make them? Meh, just an idle curiosity.
Eidt: Incidentally, Game 6, Dawn of the Golden Witch, comes out at the end of this month and Witch-Hunt's translation of Game 5 should be out around then I believe.

So I find myself in an admirable situation.

Since the death of my father (not the admirable part. Poor transitions!) the government wants to toss money at me to go to school. Probably to make up for the horrid way FAFSA works for middle class families, though I only wish that were the truth. As such, I'm going to have them for all they're worth and I'm dropping down to 20 hours a week at work and my next quarter is beyond easy. Literally a political science class I took under a different prefix in Canada, a class on comic books, and a class on rock music (as it happens, I have a great deal of my upper division requirements, but not many of my lowers).

Why does this matter, you wonder? Well. I need an anime to pour my spare time in, to prevent me from drinking too much Wild Turkey and singing karaoke at the pub 3 blocks from my place.

But what!? How can I make suggestions to such a prolific man of the format!? Its true, my experience with anime is storied, but I find that I'm growing elderly in terms of my tastes. New stuff could come out, and I would probably overlook it...

tl;dr I've come to you, noble board members! I need suggestions!

Enclosed is a /a/ recommendation image with shows X'd out for totally finished, crossed out for watched buy unfinished, and circled for "In my queue if that son of a bitch Julian next door stops playing FFXI all damn day and watches this shit with me"

God damn that picture is tiny.
Action: Darker Than Black (s1, s2 is finishing soon), Black Lagoon (s1 and s2, s3 hasn't started yet), Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (ongoing, 36/52).

Slice of Life: Lucky Star is the only of those I really liked; Minami-ke I need to get around to but I do know the series got worse (animation wise) as time went on for the seasons. Which is weird.

Romance: It's not listed but I liked Allison to Lillia; of those listed, Clannad was nice as were Kanon and Air (although they are rather old by now ... just saying).

Comedy: Not much there that I'd recommend. School Rumble eventually shit itself (Manga) so I have no idea how good the Anime is. Fumoffu was fun but I'd still watch FMP before it.

Mystery: Missing from the list is Umineko no Naku Koro ni; I may bitch about the transition from VN to Anime but, hey, it's still pretty good. Of listed, Higurashi (see Umineko * 2), Kara no Kyoukai, Death Note, and Rozen Maiden (though it's incomplete forever). I honestly can't read some of the rest and I'm too lazy to zoom in~

Drama: Why the fuck is Code Geass in drama?

Mecha: I'd definitely suggest Gundam 00 before SEED; if you really want to watch SEED, I believe there's a 5-6 hour OVA series that does the series more justice than the series itself.

Space Opera: *shrugs*

Sports: No comment as I read the Manga for most of these; given that option, I' suggest that route for the rest of Hajime no Ippo, Prince of Tennis, Hikaru no Go, and Eyeshield 21. Not sure how good the anime for those were (well, PoT sucked TEZUKA KILLED THE DINOSAURS) so no comment; I haven't seen much of New Challenger but I know I'm watching it waiting for whenever the cool fights come up >>

Psychological: For some reason, I'm drawing a massive blank here on this and none of the ones listed ring a bell yet I know I've seen them. Maybe when I sober up.

Fantasy: Spice and Wolf all day, Claymore wasn't that bad, and I personally liked Scrapped Princess way back when.

Sci-Fi: I've had Ergo Proxy sitting around forever. I should get to watching that. As for the rest, I don't know.

Other I didn't see or missed because I suck: Eden of the East (Mystery I guess?), Toaru Majutsu no Index (+ To Aru Kagaku no Railgun) maybe, Bakemonogatari (uh ... ... ... I have no idea? Supernatural Slice of Life?)
Overall: Darker Than Black, Eden of the East, Spice and Wolf, Allison to Lillia, Gundam 00.

I'm planning to catch up on this season (The Sacred [s]Boobsmith[/s]Blacksmith, Kimi ni Todoke, Railgun, Kobato, Nogizaka Purezza, and a few others) so I'll mention them later if any end up awesomesauce.

Edit: Prince of Tennis

Based on what I have seen and what you have not seen on that chart.

Action: Black Lagoon

Slice of Life: Aria, Genshiken, Hidamari Sketch. I have not seen most of Lucky Star but it might be your thing

Romance: Ef, and I have seen some of Air, Clannad, and Kanon. You should see those too.

Comedy: Cromartie, but you have that circled. Golden Boy appears funny.

Mystery: Rozen Maiden, Higurashi

Drama: Gunslinger Girl, NHK ni Youkoso/Welcome to the NHK

Mecha: You seem to have it covered

Space Opera: I have not seen any anime that fits this category, sadly

Sport: I've heard good things about Bamboo Blade

Psychological: Paranoia Agent, and anything that is a movie (applies to all categories)

Fantasy: Moribito, Spice and Wolf

Scifi: Have not seen ANY of these

no overall suggestion. Pick one from the genre you feel like watching.

The only /a/ recommendation chart I have is a different one with more choices

I'll have to rewatch it later but ... Umineko 26

*scratches head*
No Battler x Beato hug?!

And some missing Red Text as well as conflicting Red Text (saying Beato confirmed things she hasn't in the Anime, for example). Hrm ... makes me kind of glad I read to find the stuff the Anime cut after I watch the episodes. Really, they should've sped up Episode 25 so that 26 could've gotten more content (and maybe more budget? There's some Red Truths with no animation, just the Red Truth sound effect).

Edit: That was the big one; Ange's answer to Battler ("Who am I?") is all a Red Truth; for a plot point that's driven in hard (you can't believe anything not in red), it's weird to not have this put in Red. I mean, we all know it's Ange so it's not that needed just kind of "...why not put it in Red here like it's supposed to be?" And then Ange dies and it's all /sad. I'm partially surprised they didn't visualize Beato's description of Ange's death of being torn to shreds (like Hamburger meat! Thanks Internet >>) but ... whatever. Ange <3

The biggest cut though was the investigation scenes between Ange death and Red vs Blue; he spends some time researching the games and asking questions (Kanon's location during the games, for example) as well as EVERYTHING INVOLVING GAME 4. Considering no deaths played out right, and they still never found George (with his gunshot to the head wound~), I guess that's expected. Oh well, it's minor compared to Red vs Blue so acceptable loss.

...then again, we did get lolKinzodragon so ...

<2000 sales on the DVD/BDs too by the look of things. No Umineko Chiru perhaps. Congrats DEEN. Con-fucking-grats.

Time to get to the games so I can find out the real story I guess; a shame that DEEN managed to more-or-less ruin such an awesome VN. Then again, they raped Higurashi worse so...

I dunno, I'm really just disappointed with the anime as a whole.

The stuff that I was in there for was the stuff that I got to see all of 30 seconds of in the last episode and even then that was completely watered-down. "OMG!! I FINALLY GET TO SEE SOME BLUE TRUTH.... uhh... now where's the fucking red truth?! GODDAMN IT!! WHERE'S THE FUCKING BATTLE OF WITS!!"

I think it might have been the anime's execution of it, though. I'm not really sure.

There were things you mentioned in the first arc that was cut out that I think would have added to even more mystery. I felt sometimes that the anime played so much on the witch side of things that they didn't put a lot of focus on the 'so - what do you think REALLY happened?'

More was cut out of Higurashi, I understand, but even then, Higurashi was still appealing and still stayed true to the mystery of everything. It's a murder-mystery! I felt half the time with all the magic and the Kanon-scissors that I was watching a bad episode of Rozen Maiden or something.

I don't like fighting anime. I've stated that before. And that's how a lot of the episodes played out. It was almost painful for me to watch.

However, perhaps these are elements I might be able to tolerate better in visual novel form. I'm not done with Umineko, but I seriously just didn't enjoy the anime at all. Of course, I could be totally wrong and looking for Umineko to give me something that is just simply not there to give.
It's weird, as an adaptation, Umineko is better than Higurashi; as an anime, Higurashi is better than Umineko. There's a lot missing from Umineko, notably anything involving Battler thinking for some reason (as well as the humanizing moments for Beatrice T.T), that cheapens the experience overall. Plus, they used like 6 tracks of the Game OST. But, it is more faithful than Higurashi to the source; it, however, is not as cohesive as an anime nor as interesting as an anime.

I'd really try to play the games if I were you; this was a pretty horrible showing of Umineko. From what I've seen of both VNs, Umineko easily bests Higurashi.

Plus, Umineko OST > Higurashi OST.
As for Higurashi, the anime butchered the storyline but, as for a viewing experience, did do a better job. The travesty that is Game 4 of Umineko (HEY GUYS WE DECIDED EVERYONE DIES DIFFERENTLY!) pretty much matches with what they did to Higurashi; different deaths, removed deaths, the mystery sucked out of the first few arcs*, and event changes.

*It's arguable, I suppose, on this point; Higurashi (VN/SN) gives us at the end of Onikakushi-hen that everyone dies as well as the post-game TIPS / Tea Party discussing the game. The anime just sort of "lol he killed two people then clawed out his throat!" and then ... Watanagashi-hen starts and you're just "alright, what the fuck?" The aspect of "oh, the entire town died" and other things is dropped; the sense of it being a mystery that they want you to solve is lost.

If you go in with the right mindset (that is, I will solve this) then this may not be true but it's just a mindfuck otherwise with no "hey guys, figure this out" going on.

I wish they at least kept the Lambdadelta and Higurashi references in Umineko though.

I've made no secret that I WANT TO play Higurashi. 'Cause I know there was removed things. And I'm an avid Higurashi fan. It peeves me to think that there is content removed that I know nothing about and makes me think "oooh, if I loved the anime think how much I'll love the vn."

I disagree with "a mystery that they want you to solve is lost." Seriously, when the last ep of the first arc played they read the contents of the note that Keichii had left. I literally shivered 'cause I felt ":O This note is to me!! He's asking ME, the watcher, to solve his death and the mysteries around it!" The first thirty seconds of the anime drew me in but it was the note-reading segment that hooked me. I really did feel dragged in, so i'm going to defend this part of it. And I went into watching Higurashi with NO expectations, feeling bored, and only after seeing my favorite blog make yet ANOTHER fucking post about this anime that I wasn't watching.

I am, at the moment, playing the demo of Umineko, 'cause seriously, I do feel that what I'm wanting IS in the story - just the anime didn't give it to me.
Fair enough. I hope you enjoy Umineko as much as I enjoyed the first two games. Really need to get around to Game 3-5 (and 6 comes out in 5 days >>).

Also, why did they have to drop this track from the anime (it's on the ANIME OST yet not in the Anime itself):
It would be the Red vs Blue track piece I believe; it takes the spot of Golden Slaughter, Mirage Coordinator, etc. from the previous games as the finale piece.
