Nonsense like that is why I stopped giving a shit about desktop Linux many years ago.
Are you using an unstable/testing branch of your distro, or is it a homespun system?

It's Ubuntu 10.10 ('Maverick Meerkat'), which should be stable enough. I could install from scratch because of the new HDD. The rest of the time I just apply package upgrades as they become available (usually daily). I'd been holding back on upgrading Xorg/fglrx/kernel packages for a while though.
Maybe I'll play some anime theme songs. I'm not desperate enough yet to dust off my old CRT TV.

Happy days and jubilations! \o/
Adding 'nomodeset' to the kernel options not only made the radeon driver not crash, but now it does both direct rendering (GL) and Xv acceleration. Hurry up 17:30, so I can start watching anime again

Tower of Druaga is fun, but the sudden shift into serious-land in season 2 was a bit of a whiplash. Kinda reminded me of the original Full Metal Panic! series in that regard. Still, its good so far, the English dub is awesome (Go, Monica Rial, go...and such), although some of the my favorite characters from season 1 are getting less air time.

Ponyo was good, I got the DVD on a whim since it was a Ghibli film and those never disappoint.
