Hahaha, Apollon, it doesn't always matter "if there is suppose to be sexual tension". It matters what we fans see and perceive and like about characters.
It's like, sometimes I wish Kyon from Haruhi and Tomoya from Clannad could get together <333 :3 Oh, but that's another story.
And I think in this situation with Kino in Saiyuki, you also have to consider the person. Kino and I have VERY similar tastes but again I hope I'm not putting words in her mouth. Kino and I LOVE yaoi and while it is not ALWAYS the driving force between some of our purchases, if we pick up a manga and flip through it and see hot guys we are probably going to both be like "OMG!! FAN SERVICE, PLEASE!!" This sounds like one of those situations for Kino and unfortunately she was disappointed to see that, you're right - there is nothing there between the characters. And probably, unfortunately if she put it down, there was nothing else in the manga that interested her into continue reading.
I've seen a little Get Backers. :3

I was sorely disappointed in the lack of yaoi fanservice. :[
And unfortunately I do not like fighting anime... I watched through the violin girl arc and then put it away. Sorely disappointed.

Nope, Maxine, you can [s]put whatever you like in my mouth[/s] speak for me because you said, more succinctly than I would have, precisely my arguments on the matter.
And, no, it isn't about the literal fucking. As Kimiko said, I'd just watch porn if that's what I wanted to see -- it's about the emotions and the romance, maybe a little kissing. Sure I could slash (ie; imagine sexual scenarios where there is canonically none) and that's fine for a lot of series (Gundam Wing for instance) but for others, like GetBackers and Saiyuki, I just wasn't interested in the story or the characters enough to follow them without any payout. Look at the promo image Maxine posted. Fucking look at that. That's some serious fujoshi blue balling right there, and I used to have far more suggestive official art than that. I mildly enjoyed both series, but not enough to continue spending money and time on them.
Besides, I mostly gravitate toward actual BL material these days, or at least series that readily play into it (Hetalia, but then again most of the popular relationships are pretty damn canon).
And I'm not just a fujoshi monster. I enjoy the hell out of Miyazaki films, as discussed. Red River has absolutely zero BL in it, and is in fact unapologetic hetero shojo, and I fucking love it. Full Metal Panic, which Maxine didn't like, although I feel like I'm cheating mentioning that one because my brain just automatically re-writes it as 1x2. >__>;; Also Azumanga Daioh is one of my favorite series, and there's barely any guys in that one.

@ Kimiko... hrrrm... you do have a point. I made an error here. But, you do seem to be suggesting that I make this error with every "suppose" that I use. *shrugs* I'll watch it from now on. ^_^
@Kino: :3 Glad you like my words AND the image. ^_^ I always know how to please my Kino.
Same with Kino. I've probably watched ten tons more anime than her. And not all of it because I want the romance scenes (though I do love romance stories). I'm actually a fan of children protagonists more than anything. This is why I was able to get through a considerable portion of Naruto.
Card Captor Sakura is also a favorite. Matentei Loki was a lot of fun (uh... does that count as a child, though... heh, oh well). Last Exile. Excaflowne. Rozen Maiden. Kino's Journey. Shana. Evangelion. Kiki's Delivery Service. Ponyo... oh wait... I guess that was kidna "relationship" driven even if they were children. Spirited Away.
Also other animes I have appreciated without relationship scenes: Mushishi. Slayers. Serial Experiments Lain. Haibane Renmei. Higurashi. Umineko. Sola (or... wait, that could almost be called a love-story anime, but... meh, not why I watched it)
*grins widely* :3 God I love my anime.
