Madoka was okay. I didn't find it super great or anything, mostly because of the art (aside from the character designs of course) and the tone (story by Gen Urobuchi of Bokurano fame). The ending made up for it a little though. Music by Yuki Kajiura was nice too, but not as memorable as some of her other works.

You really didn't like the art? I see...
Also I think the tone is what made it so engaging but I really couldn't handle too much of it at a time without balancing it out with K-ON or Hidamari
