iDOLM@STER 4
T.T CHIHAYA...
PURODUSAH-SAN.
Serious, this is the least happy episode. The ED montage is fucking depressing. Aoi Tori is a pretty song (Chihaya's seiyuu is easily the best singer of the bunch) but goddamn if that ED wasn't just sad.

After rewatching season 1 of K-On!, I'm now going through season 2.
I just checked out the character image song CDs for s1 again, and it seems I will indeed have to buy a few more in addition to the Mio Akiyama one I already have. Death Devil also sounds interesting on second listen. I'm still waiting for another big order from CDJapan though, so the music will have to wait a while yet. Japanese DVDs and BDs are super expensive, so I want to be careful not to buy too much at once

As for season two of K-On!!, it is twice as long as the first, but covers only half the time, which means it moves a lot slower. I was expecting new Music Club members, but instead they've stuck with the old group, only adding Suzuki outside the band. It seems that everyone's personalities are a little bit more extreme this season. Yui and Ritsu in particular are more air-headed and hyperactive. So far, I like this season of course, but a little less than the first. I'm only at ep.4 though, so I may be mistaken.

General consensus is that K-On's second season actually injects a plot to the series, something it was in dire need of. Though, if you went in expecting more freeflowing plot, you'll probably have the initial dislike.

Well, like I said, I've only watched four eps. yet, so my opinion might change. Besides, 'dislike' is much too strong a word. I would put season 1 in my top N anime list, so season 2 being a little less doesn't mean it can't be near-perfect.
Plot? I don't really expect much of a plot in a slice-of-life series such as this. We'll see what happens though

It was more a "dislike in comparison" thing, not that you think it's bad. Or something like that...
I need to get around to K-On if only for the fact that it basically reinvigorated an entire fucking genre. That won't die now. No matter how many shitty knockoffs come out every season.
That and to appreciate some good animation, datMio, and to figure out what's so mono no aware about the second season :/

Huh, you haven't watched any K-On! yet?

Nope. I waited for BDs and around when K-On was airing was when I kind of stopped watching stuff for awhile. It's been backburnered for awhile and iDOLM@STER has made me want to move K-On up the "to watch" list.

Ah I see. Is that the 'genre' you meant, two posts up, musical anime? If so, you might be disappointed with K-On!, as only two songs are actually played on-screen, not counting the OP and ED. The rest are CD only. It's really more comedic slice-of-life I'd say (as contrasts with 'scenery porn' slice-of-life). And I don't think anyone could call that genre dead.

It's more the four girls slice of life with some school club setup. There's been one per season since K-On first aired in varying degrees of "holy shit that's a ripoff" to "holy shit you didn't even try to hide it, did you?" K-On didn't start them (Lucky Star probably did more for the 4-koma adaptation like that, if I had to venture a guess) but goddamn if K-On didn't bring some sort of resurgence. Kind of like whatever-the-hell it was that started these detective/mystery animes right now. I guess I'll blame/thank Gosick.
iDOLM@STER more just reminded me of the slice of life and music thing being linked to K-On, regardless of K-On actually using their (really good) music in it or not. I don't really expect to get "WHOA MUSIC" from K-On every episode, more the character interaction stuff.
Speaking of which, iDOLM@STER uses a lot of the songs from the game (two per episode; one is the insert, one is the ED) which has been a treat.
Aoi Tori, so good.
