Which Macross? Or are you watching everything?

Don't miss Macross 7 and Macross Zero. They're very good as well (although 7 is long, like SDF).

Re: What anime are you currently watching?
I just finished the original Macross and Macross Plus, watching Macross 7 now, and I've already seen Macross Frontier. I will probably either watch Macross Zero or rewatch Macross Frontier next. I probably won't watch Macross II.
I've only been watching the series and not the movies.

Re: What anime are you currently watching?
Macross Plus is fucking incredible. Really.
Macross Zero is short, and sweet, and looks pretty cool.
Macross II is a weird movie thing that only kind of fits with the general Macross stuff.
Macross 7 is cool, but kind of a slog for the first 25 episodes or so, to be honest. Its lengthy like SDF, like Kimiko said, but I don't feel like the story is as engaging until the last bit.
Macross Frontier is essentially the SDF story with a modern twist. Which I was honestly pleased to see. Also the last episode has about the coolest, most absurd, mecha fight/pop song medley sequence in human history.
SDF Macross, presented as the first season of Robotech, was what really got me into anime, back in the late 90's. I had been watching anime, sure, but I was never THAT attached to something. Back then, when it was really hard to acquire anime, I was devastated when it went off the air. I ate it up like nothing else. My local Hollywood Video, which was about the size of a grocery store, not that piddly shit they had before the shut down, had the last 3 VHS tapes, with 2 episodes each, if I remember correctly. But no more. I longed for more. When the DVD releases finally came out a few years later, I damn near cried. It was like coming back to an old friend. I eventually discovered the "Do You Remember Love?" movie, which you should totally watch, since its basically a truncated Macross with a high budget.
Fuck I love Macross.
I might just crack a beer and watch some Macross right now.

Re: What anime are you currently watching?
So Starfe and Kimiko, O masters of Macross, should I Netflix the first season of Robotech, or find subs of SDF Macross online?
I understand that Robotech cut a bunch of stuff out because they tried to combine three different series, but is it still worth it?
Oh and one final question, I have very easy access to Macross Plus - the movie version, (It's on the desk next to me). Should I finish SDF before watching or is it stand-alone?

Re: What anime are you currently watching?
Been watching Gundam AGE. Personally, as a huge Gundam fanatic, I am really enjoying it. Yes its story is very simple compared to some of the UC series, but I mean it was kinda targeted towards a different demographic. I just really love all the nods it makes to the UC series too, and that most battles seem to take way more strategy than....well this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMFGaM5xa8U
Plus it has one of my favorite MS designs in a while, the Gundam AGE-2 Dark Hound:

Edit: Also I agree, Robotech was garbage. Besides, I believe the original Macross series was dubbed recently in it's entirety and it was miles better than Robotech.

Re: What anime are you currently watching?
They have the english dub of SDF Macross on Crackle, which is basically a clunky free version of netflix with advertisements.
The dub is goodstuff, they got Minmay's japanese voice actress to reprise her role for the dub, which is kind of awesome.

Re: What anime are you currently watching?
I'd be lying if I said that it didn't sound odd though, its clear that she doesn't speak complete clear english but its pretty cool(not to mention rare) to see seiyū reprising their roles in a dub. Personally though when it comes to mecha anime, my heart will always be with Gundam. Sure Macross is great, but I dunno it doesn't capture the same magic.

Re: What anime are you currently watching?
I would reverse your ratings of Macross Plus and Macross Zero. Plus is pretty good, but Zero is totally awesometastic. As is Frontier. Get the HD/BluRay versions of both if you can.
I agree that Macross 7 dragged a little here and there (as did original SDF), and Basara is a jerk sometimes, but Mylene is cute, and hey, Firebomber makes it all great.
I haven't watched Macross II because it's not part of the canon. Do You Remember Love? is basically a summary episode version of SDF Macross with a rather different ending tacked on. Don't watch it as a substitute of the real thing. It is the origin of the "Deculture!" meme though, so it makes Macross Frontier more fun if you've seen it first. Frontier is full of little references to all the other series in the franchise anyway, so you'd want to watch that last.

Macross II has my favourite music of all the Macross series.
And I liked the show itself. Dunno why it got hated on enough to get uncanonized. *shrug*

Because Studio Nue wasn't involved in its creation.

Re: What anime are you currently watching?
Actually, many of you might find it odd but I never cared for Frontier. Maybe because to me, the Vajra were just uninteresting, and how the characters felt either one note or just...unappealing.
