I read about that once before. It any good?

I've enjoyed the heck out of it so far. I haven't finished the season, though. I think I got through about seventeen episodes.

i watched the first two eps and couldnt really stay into it

it made me mad more than anything. there were a lot of messed up situations going on that none of them should have been standing for, but the message seemed to be moving towards "deal with it and make the most of what you have, focus on the bright side etc" vs "have some fucking respect for yourself"

I can see how you might take it that way, noodle-love. I dunno about how she could do anything differently, though, in terms of showing respect for herself. Is she supposed to go get her own place away from her flaky mother (who, by the way, makes me SO angry) and stern grandmother (who, now that I'm thinking about it, also pissed me right off)? I'm pretty sure she's a minor, so that's not an option.

stern isn't the word so much as emotionally abusive. Ohana wants to work really hard to make grandma love her? I would rather live in a box, and in Japan minors actually can and do live on their own since getting schools is a completely different process and going to high school could require them to move to an apartment many miles away.

At the same time, Minko is literally being hit by the chef for cutting things wrong, but we're supposed to want her to do her job well and win the chef's affections? Why should she be the one to change her actions? Hell, Ohana was almost molested by that one guy driving the van, and the show just kind of brushed it off

These are all things that are serious and would be disturbing to anyone they happened to in the real world, but they aren't addressed at all. It's not about how to actually deal with those problems and make the most of your life, it was glorifying the act of ignoring them.

Plus, if we're going to talk about ways females are treated and portrayed in anime, well... basically 95% of all anime becomes unwatchable.
