... it's the first time I've heard the premise, which is why I posted it. I thought it was a little... weird.
The only gender-switching thing I've ever watched is hack/SIGN if that can be considered as such.
Though, you're right, I'm not too surprised that they exist as I think I kinda figured it, but... it sounds a little funny and I've got it marked as a "watch for this anime" as I'd like to check it out when it's produced and see what's done with it. Could be... interesting XD

Anyway, has anyone here seen the new Karas anime?
I'm planning on watching it, so I wanna know if it's any good.

Gender-bender is so common that I'm kind of confused at this ...
Other news, NSFW I guess? (Valkyria Chronicles SWIMSUIT FIGURES!)

I would like to take the time to both thank and damn for their blu-ray releases of ... well, a lot of stuff. Replacing my Gundam 00 (Season 1), Code Geass (Season 1), ef - a tale of melodies, and Toaru no Majutsu Index with 1080p releases T.T Spice and Wolf and ef - a tale of memories too if I ever get unlazy and get them from their IRC >>.
Oh god ... they look so awesome (and rape my poor lack of storage space ... T.T when is my 500GB drive getting back from repair T.T). Time to buy a 1.5TB drive or something too...

I guess it's a good thing but... DAMN, isn't there ANY new good animes coming out for this spring? The only anime I watch these days is just Skip Beat. Even Toradora just got boring/annoying for me.

watch gundam 0080!
Picked up Stardust Memory. Pretty good, except for the terribly written romance.

Valkyria Chronicles airs this Spring. White Album (more of a Winter release) seemed interesting too with it's "so yeah, we probably stole this plot from Skip Beat" plotline. Kurokami and Koukaku no Regios (WHY THE ENGRISH) seem good but they fall into that shounen / "OH LOOK A FIGHT SCENE" type so ... yeah. Still, that's Winter period stuff but, hey, unless you go through backlog faster than me (which isn't hard) then ... yeah.
Plus, isn't Umineko no Naku Koro ni a Spring release as well? Might've been Summer...
Looking over , I have to say it looks pretty weak. Queen's Blade, Hayate no Gotoku, Valkyria Chronicles and then whatever catches my eye when I look over the previews.
Catching up with Gundam 00 S2 right now. I really wish they'd stop the whole "I WILL SAY YOUR FULL NAME EVERY TIME BECAUSE IT IS DRAMATIC."
Also, his name is Ribbons. I still laugh at that.

"RIBBONS ALMARAK" cannot be said in a serious tone. It is not possible. You start to crack a smile / giggle when you say Ribbons. TRY IT.
And, yeah, Umineko no Naku Koro ni is a Summer release by the look of things. As far as I know, it takes place after Higurashi and is actually, somehow, more "oh wow dead people."* Doesn't help that the game has a "DEAD PEOPLE" counter.
"When the seagulls cried ... none remained alive."
*
Not counting the "THE ENTIRE CITY FUCKING DIED" endings of Higurashi. Umineko has a ~20 person main cast.
...in retrospect, part of me is a little scared / creeped out to see the vicious murders to happen in the eventual blu-ray release here...
Edit: Will say Umineko loses some "okay, creepy" due to the plot.
You know ... the fact it EMBRACES THE OCCULT from the get-go. Higurashi is seemingly realistic until you learn that it's not just "whee, we want to kill the loli a lot" and is "WE'RE DOING THE TIME WARP." I mean, the main plot is the summoning of Beatrice, the Endless Witch ... who has probably the coolest murdering tool ever. I KILL YOU, REVIVE YOU, KILL YOU AGAIN.
I haven't played Umineko I just know the basic arc plots and some things of the cast.
Also, I apparently couldn't remember that '86 is AFTER '83. I am dumb.
Edit2: Umineko v1 is translated in the event you're curious. Find it via the usual sources somewhere. Look at the end of rainbows. Not the side with the pot of gold but the one with the axe-crazy murderers.

For me, what made Higu so creepy was the deaths themselves and the way they were presented.
Each arc started out with a vicious murder shot and the arc built itself up until it reached that point (except for the 3rd(?) arc). But it went from the OMG MURDER scene to a very happy group that made you wonder "uhh... how do they get from point A to point B"
I don't think the things you mentioned would kill off a creepy mood. It's the presentation that I like. Still... >_> I HATE HATE HATE horror and usually feel that it's full of crappy plot, too much sex, and too much "stupidity" (I have literally gotten up during some horror flic because I got pissed about how a character died for the dumbest of reasons such as 'I thought I heard a voice down here, but Timmy went the other way, but I'll still go down here 'cause I'm curious, despite SUPPOSE to be deathly afraid.). I usually have no respect for horror. HnNKn might have been a one time thing for me. Shocking of course that it was an anime that managed to get me to like something in the horror category.
FYI, I'm the sort of person that will sit there and analyze things during a movie. The sort of person that goes "That car obviously hit a hidden ramp in order to flip like that." NEVER take me to see a horror movie because not only will I not be scared but I analyze the hell out of it.

I have ruined movies, anime, books, and pretty much anything else for myself by overanalyzing things. "No, you can tell it was all arranged since he ducked into the wrong room before that scene." I'm just weird like that so I know what you mean.
Umineko deaths
From what little I know from arc 1, all the deaths are the victims being impaled, though only 7 have the weapon in them still, and their faces ripped off / partially ripped off. Why partially I don't know. Probably something to do with the story itself. Who knows. We'll see how the anime decides to depict these murders.
Further spoilers. More of a train of thought on it as opposed to just a description of the deceased.
The basic plot follows that Beatrice can be "defeated" if one can prove that there is no magic involved. That humans can, indeed, commit these murders. Beatrice existing early on, unlike Hanyuu, is pretty much giving the Supernatural v Human conflict from the start. Battler / Batora pretty much refuses to believe in the supernatural and it is the main point of contention; if all believe, Beatrice can revive everyone and take them away (my money is on her mindraping them but whatever). Her appearance is what marks the start of the surprising deaths.
Further that, her summoning is a direct result of the vicious murdering of the entire family so it brings around some questions:
1) Are they all really dead? What's with the half removed faces as compared to fully removed? My guess is the fully removed gives you the ability to believe that, yes, they're not really dead. Some of them are body doubles / fakes. Something of the sort.
2) What the fuck is with the ice picks in 7 of the bodies? Following the "Seven Stakes of Purgatory" theme, it's probably depicting the sins related to the dead. Following 1), this leads to some weird "okay, these 7 are the intended dead. What's with the rest?" theories.
Really though, this is like trying to solve Higurashi whilst only knowing the Onikakushi plot. POWER OF MIRACLES based off of "yeah they freaked me out and tried to kill me I batted them to death."
Point A to Point B as to, "So ... why did the loli die?" is creepier to me as it is the sheer "...wow, really, that's how she died?" kind of thing. I dunno, I can't really explain what I mean (because I suck at it). Like, Onikakushi and Watanagashi intros made me laugh but seeing them act all fucking psycho deranged throughout the arcs is what actually got under my skin. The actual death was less "WTF" than the steps leading up to it. The copious amount of gore helped make it laughable (GAG BLOOD).
Edit:
K1 ripping out his throat bugged me though. Self inflicted gets me all the time I don't know why. I'd say it is some weird neck sensitivity but I enjoyed Sweeney Todd so ... who knows. Again, that may be GAG BLOOD in effect but K1's "I RIP MYSELF TO PIECES" suicide is pretty much Blood+++ so ... who knows.
I will admit to being freaked out at Rena, for example, in Onikakushi-hen. THE EYES. OH GOD THE EYES.
...billhook too but 95% of it was those fucking eyes.
Didn't help that I could totally see a friend pulling a YOU KNOW WHO (same personality and ... actually, body too). That made it a little creepy upon watching Onikakushi and Watanagashi arcs. The whole time thinking, "...she's going to murder me. Oh god ..."
Changed a little when, you know, Tsumihoroboshi and Meakashi change things a little.
Time to start reading Umineko. If I can't sleep at night due to now thinking all my friends are out to kill me, I blame you.
Edit: I immediately want to blame Maria.
TOKEN INNOCENT LOLI HAD TO HAVE DONE IT.
Edit2: Following is random shots from v1 (Prolouge through Chapter 3). Not much happened and I can't find raws / scans of c4+. Oops. Did find Umineko Episode 2 (Turn of the Golden Witch) but that helps none.

I'd like to blame hype or just hating the genre. Gungrave wasn't bad (despite the first episode debacle) but if you don't like action then uh ... get the fuck away. Also, GRATUITOUS ENGRISH.
Also lame ending.
Personally, I go in assuming any and all suggestions are terrible. People have varying tastes. Simple enough. Does make me wonder what you do like though.
In other news ... there is no other news. Re-watching stuff in BLU-RAY GLORY. And also because the HDD with my anime hates Windows (well, more like ext3 doesn't work on Windows) and I don't feel like swapping back to Ubuntu right now to watch anything that I don't have on my Windows partitions / external.

I'm not even sure how an action buff would like it. The action is so, so, sooooooo spread apart. You'd figure I would love all of that dialogue but in the end it was pretty shallow and there were only two character that I didn't despise... one who dies about mid point and the other dies before the end. Despite how they spend around 17~ episodes fleshing each character out, they did little to make them interesting. After I finished watching it, I watched the game ending and REALLY WISH that had happened and saved me from watching three episodes.
By that I mean Brandon shooting Harry much sooner.
The person who told me to watch this noted that I'd love the tragedy. Well, I didn't. It was lame, predictable and not fleshed out enough for me to feel much.
Anime series I've liked and watched willingly:
Blassreiter
Hoshi no Kaabii
Cardcaptor Sakura
Out of like 236263265. ¬ ¬
