Different strokes etc. etc. Ikki Tousen is shameless fanservice-y action and, hell, sometimes that's all it takes.
In other news, Umineko no Naku Koro ni (Volume 1) has me slightly terrified of a 9 year old girl. Also, uu~uu.
Okay, not really terrified so much as "...she's kind of creepy" going through my head. Not a thought one should have about a little girl I'd say >>
A part of me wants to say Maria will end up somehow being thought of being the killer; her or Natsuhi (Jessica makes more sense, actually). Both seem like red herrings though. Kyrie is another choice, I suppose, with the whole "what if there isn't 19 people but 18 with one person pretending to be two?" revelation (...okay, more of a "if you didn't think this by now you should give up on this series as you're probably too dumb to continue" than a revelation) but, again, a red herring. Or misdirection? Overthinking bah.
Or, perhaps, this is the lone exception to the "game", since it does occur before Battler's battle with Beatrice begins, and Beatrice does play a part in the murders. I wonder if I can get my hands on Volume 2 prior to the show airing in three weeks. Hrm.
Maria is adorable though. Jessica as well, as the apparent tsundere of the series. The rest of the family can die in a fire (and probably will~) for all I care. Well, Battler is interesting, if only for the fact he has a backbone ... but we'll see if that holds true once bodies begin popping up.
I theorize a lot. Ridiculous amounts. I just hope this ends up being more confusing then Higurashi. I've already crafted elaborate theories in my head for Umineko and, as far as I've read, nothing has happened. Well, outside of an aversion for the letter u.
For example, I didn't have too much trouble with the Mion / Shion thing, mostly due to it being played rather straight (Shion is the confident one of the two when it comes to "girly" things; anything "Shion" did that she seemed meek about, after her introduction, was Mion).
That and Higurashi plays with the notion of red herrings and paranoia as the primary sources of confusion and "thrill." I guess red herring more for the mystery as it builds up a lot of "it has to be this" before proving it wrong.
*shrugs* I'm trying to get a few other people into watching Umineko with me so I have more bodies to bounce ideas off of but who knows. I do have a friend who started Higurashi recently and hindsight and him figuring shit out before the end of the third arc has made me re-evaluate my opinion of Higurashi as a "mystery."
ps, never did figure out why the anime left out Keiichi dying in Watanagashi. The game kills him off in a TIPS from heart failure from the hallucinations of Shion coming to kill him, if I recall.

?The anime did put Watanagashi-Keiichi death. It didn't show the killing blow but it was psychotic and I remember it made me wonder "OMG SHE'S STILL FUGGIN' ALIVE?!"
I think the only arc that he didn't die in was in Tatarigoroshi. It just showed a news report with Keiichi being the lone survivor of a gas explosion (or whatever) but never said what happened to him after that.
Watanagashi-hen
Good point. I guess I more meant the "how" since that gives the impression Shion survived the whole ordeal somehow (if you believe Keiichi dies from her, that is). If you think Shion is dead and he's imagining it, Keiichi survives.
The game just pretty much flat out tells you that it's a hallucination (well, in a TIPS afterwards) ... and then tells you he dies anyway.
Moral of the story: Give her the fucking doll to prevent psychotic breakdowns, nails in hands, and other nonesense.
As for Tatarigoshi, I think he does end up living o.O
One of the other "lone survivor" situations I can think of is the manga-only arc (and now on the DS Dai - San - Kan Rasen game).
