Minami-ke's "legend" wasn't that it was godawful but so much that it degraded as the series got more popular, which was rather weird.
Most shounen series have worse episodes, though they're usually filler or non-fight scenes that get outsourced to monkeys.
As for Umineko, I think most the returning voice cast are the minor roles from Higurashi (except for Rika). Hanyu (Horie Yui), Satoshi (Kobayashi Yu), Akasaka (Ono Daisuke), Takano (Miki Ito) and I think a few others.
Edit:
...I really just called Takano a minor character. Oh boy.
The voices of the actual cast (K1, Rena, Mion/Shion, Satoko) aren't in Umineko as far as I know.
ohdear Umineko spoilers about voices
Rika's seiyuu may not return if they don't keep the appearance of the Witch of Miracles, Frederika Bernkastel, in the anime. I'm not sure how big of a role she plays if she warrants being brought over.
Edit: This all made me go find for Umineko. It's an official fantranslation of Umineko (official in the sense that Ryukishi07 encouraged them to complete the project and even mentions the group in the fourth arc) so ... something for me to do once the first arc finishes.

Episodes of Hell Girl were bad? I didn't notice any. Okay, many people found them to be too repetitive, but I found that quite tolerable. The first season had a very good plot. The second season was interesting too, although I personally thought it a little less than the first. I haven't started the third one yet.

Hayate no Gotoku Episode 12 kept Hinagiku's rendition of Cruel Angel's Thesis from the manga (though without the censoring)~! I think this may be favorite rendition of the song, though I suppose it's mostly due to Hina > the Evangelion cast for me.
Edit: Oops, found one with the video from the episode ... sort of. The shots without Hina are removed and it's just looping her singing scene >> Still~

Anyway, some of the Summer '09 serieses have started so ... here we go.
Canaan Synopsis: ... I have no idea, to be honest. From AniDB: "Anime adaptation of Chunsoft’s visual novel mystery game 428 ~Fuusa Sareta Shibuya de~. "
...yeah, that's not a lot of help. Incidentally, I think Type-Moon has a hand in the scenario for this. From what I've gathered, it's a mystery thriller set in modern day Shibuya (god damn do the Japanese hate Shibuya?).
OP: I think they really liked Revy since the female cast here, at least the two mains, seem to be at her level of killing people from the OP. Anyway, the song ([mind as Judgement] - Faylan) is rather upbeat and catchy, despite the lyrics. I quite like it, to be honest.
DOES SHE SLIT SOMEONE'S THROAT WITH A GUN?! I guess it's more reasonable that she shot him but the timing is weird so it looks like she cut him, especially from the blood spaltter.
ED: A slow song ([My Heaven] - Annabel) but it's rather pretty. Not much imagery though.
OP + ED Video
Episode: All the main badasses seem to be female. And, at least from what they've shown of Canaan, completely fucking broken overpowered. Like whoa.
...you know, there's just something when the show starts with a chick SNIPING ... wait, balloons? Oh dear, never mind, jesus christ at that shot, assuming it was her that shot him (which I think was the point of showing that a bullet HIT THE FUCKING DOLL).
And wtf at the kids playing in blood.
"Strange Event - A Town's Residents All Disappeared Overnight ... retarded, they're all so retarded!" ... rewatching Higurashi made me laugh at this, even if it wasn't about it at all. Only confusing bit is the series starts off in ... Shanghai. Kind of weird, but I guess it'll move to Japan relatively fast.
I wish they'd throw names out more with faces so I can get used to people. I know Canaan (...duh) and I assume the other assassin they show in the intro is Alphard (weird name for a female).
A lot of intrigue but that's about it so far. I kind of wish they gave some thought towards, you know, fleshing some people out but I suppose the basics are obvious (Canaan and Alphard are soldiers that ... I guess work as assassins when not captured by the CIA, Minoru and Maria are journalists, Hakko and some guy are ... researchers, I think?). Some supernatural-esque stuff introduced already (Synesthesia, but that does exist, just not in the way they're making it sound) though
What confuses me are the guys wearing a mask of some sort ... dying when it was removed. I suppose that's the plot, something about a virus and the cat mascot thing. Who the fuck knows. [s]Hinamizawa[/s] CANAAN Syndrome I suppose.
AND ABOVE ALL ... THEY DON'T ALL SPEAK JAPANESE THANK GOD.
The Next Episode preview is cryptic, has an old man with an SMG, and a Chinese girl with ridiculously large breasts. Did I mention cryptic? "A cruel game" indeed.
Umi Monogatar ~Anata Ga Ite Kureta Koto~ Synopsis: This is based on a PACHINKO GAME? What the fuck kind of games are they playing. What the fuck.
From AniDB (which got it from ANN): The "transforming magical girl action" story centers on Marin and Urin, two "pure" sisters who live alongside the fish in the sea, but yearn to be in the world beyond the water and above ground. One day, a beautiful ring falls in the middle of the sea, and Marin and Urin retrieve it. The two decide to leave their waterbound world for the first time to deliver the ring. After an arduous journey, they come across an isolated island where a high school girl named Kanon lives. The encounter between Marin and Kanon — the maiden of the sea and the maiden of the skies — awakens a hidden power as the world is threatened by an enveloping darkness.
OP: Same as the trailer from awhile back. Slow but pretty song ([violet] - marble). Also, it has a TURTLE WITH A MOUSTACHE AND COOL HAT so it cannot fail. I'm assuming this'll end up being a harem somewhere along the way (or some form of romance) so the intro fits.
ED: Another sweet slow song ([透明な祈り] - Masumi Itou) filled with romance imagery.
OP + ED Video:

Episode: Returning a ring = start of epic journey = wow this moved out of the water fast as fuck. Also, really, Marin and Urin ... and some guy named Sam? Someone got lazy with naming the side characters you'll never see again (hell, the other girl didn't even get a name).
Skimpy outfits galore on the three ... ah ... mermaids? I dunno, they look normal, no tails or anything. All the more apparent on the outfits because two of them are well endowed (Marin and ... unknown ... Urin is token loli).
I now have to take back my normal romance subplot since Kanon is a girl and no guys seem to be introduced yet (outside of her useless ex boyfriend). I guess it's a yuri plotline? Or no romance, in which case my interest is pretty much nil.
Kanon = tsundere (and/or evil + loli). Marin = airhead (+ stacked). Urin = headstrong-but-childish-on-the-inside (+loli) Me = /wrist (+ skeptical).
To be more serious, the first episode is boring as fuck. I think it's an excuse for "innocent" fanservice a lot at times it seems (what with Marin being 80% naked anyway). Plot hasn't started yet so it's really just introducing Marin and Kanon I suppose before EPIC JOURNEY into lesbianism
So in short: not as interesting as I originally thought without a guy (not really into yuri romance plots). That and the THANK GOD THE RING LANDED NEXT TO THE EVIL BEING SEALED FOREVER plot device.
Moral of the Episode: Curious loli = end of the world by ominous black mist.
Edit: Needless. Uh ... it's ... uh ... uh ... over the top? I can't tell whether or not to take this seriously or not. I have no further comments.
Well, one other. Oh dear god tits.
Edit: Oh god, the ED has so much school girl nudity and passionate HAPPYFUNTIME (really just them kissing, fondling, and otherwise confusing me) that I have to wonder if this is even the SAME FUCKING SHOW ANYMORE. Also, I feel like a pedophile for watching that.

I'm with you on Umi Monogotari would've been better as a simple romance series, though I suppose I went into it knowing it was a mahou shoujo and the whole "DOOMGLOOMBLACKFOG" plotline. The OP/ED are cute and the episode itself was relatively lovely (except the whole "lol water level done already" bit; seriously, they got out of that shit fast). I'm not expecting much, to be honest. I may follow it or at least archive it for an "eventual" watch (honest, I'll get to you eventually True Tears T.T).
CANAAN I'll probably stick with by the look of things, Needless I'll watch more of just to wonder what the fuck is with the ED video (seriously, what the fuck), and Umineko and Spice and Wolf are fairly obvious. Chihiro's early look at Gendai Mahou makes me a little hopeful for a comedy series for the season, so that'll pair nicely with Hayate (though Hayate arcs at this point are now in serious mode). Just leaves Bakemonogatari, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, and Seitokai no Ichizon for my initial "sure why not" shows.
By the way, you ever finish Allison to Lillia?

I remember my first time watching Episode 13...
Made me turn it off and go do other things when Wil left. Was all sad for the loss of HAPPY END.
...until he goes and comes back in the same episode.
Edit: Started watching Detective Conan ... dear god, the OP and ED are so pro-Shinichi x Ran (okay, just the ED) that it's almost saddening. Here's OP 23 [一秒ごとに Love for You] - Kuraki Mai and ED 30, which are both ridiculous numbers, [Summer Memories] - Kamiki Aya.
Revive lyrics are even sadder for a Shinich x Ran fanboy that WANTS A FUCKING RESOLUTION ALREADY.
Bold denotes In English originally.
A desperate crisis, a tempest of emotion
It comes swooping in abruptly, grabbing the receiver.
Don't stop Didn't you want to keep your cool? Say "Good Bye"
And maybe tell him inadvertently.
I have to break out, I don't want to lose my on mind*
Even though I love you so much.
Inside me, everything is a liaision,
Shouting, "I need you baby"
But every night I reproach my doubts.
I can hear it perfectly, Love forever and only one.
Your voice saying just next stage resume and "Revive"
I have to jump away, I don't want to lose my on mind*
Even though I love you so much.
Somewhere faraway
Shouting, "Do you mind if I open the door?"
every night my heart battles with insecurity.
I can hear it perfectly, Love forever and only one
Your voice saying just next stage resume and "Revive".
*Pretty damn sure she meant to say "my own mind" ... as it makes more sense (i.e., LESS ENGRISH).

It's things like that that get me, and probably one of the reasons why I'll faithfully read Detective Conan until the end (GIVE ME CLOSURE GOD DAMN IT). And the entire reason I picked up True Tears (it had the tag "Angst" which made me laugh) now that I think about it.

Who knows. I've had it forever+1, the OP is nice but I just haven't gotten around to it. I think it's high on my list, just to figure out why the hell it had the "ANGST" tag but I've just been busy.
Doing nothing instead of watching it.
Edit: Plus, the first scene of the opening?
La'cryma.
I can't help but see it and go, "CRY MORE" and then laugh. Incidentally, True Tears has nothing to do with the Visual Novel it's named after (also done by La'cryma). Huh, weird.
Who knows. All I have to say is, I'll be disappointed for anything but a Hiromi finish.
Long hair tsundere (probably) = win.
Edit: So I was wondering what was taking the subs so long on Bakemonogatari ... oh dear god, the amount of on-screen text is fucking ridiculous. Good lord.
THEY RECAP THE NOVEL PREQUEL. AS ON SCREEN TEXT. THIS TAKES ALMOST 2 MINUTES.
Oh well, 1080p beauty of a show.
...oh and the description totally made me think this was a harem or something. What the fuck no. Supernatural horror.

Edit: Umineko 2. AND SO IT BEGINS.
Dead:
Rudolph (Battler's Father, 2nd Son and 3rd in line)
Kyrie (Battler's Stepmother, Married into family)
Rosa (Maria's Mother, 2nd Daughter)
Krauss (Natsuhi's husband, Jessica's father, 1st Son and 1st in line)
Gohda (Head Chef, nothing else)
Shannon (Maid, George's Fiancee, [s]Kugimiya Rie[/s])
...
...
Holy fuck I was right, though there was something plausible for most (wtf at Gohda dying though) and Shannon felt "right" as a choice, though I knew about George's proposal to her.
Assuming Maria is involved somehow, seeing as she is the messenger for Beatrice, Rosa being killed makes sense. Rudolph predicted his death, though I'm not sure why Kyrie had to die to be honest. Krauss had proof the gold existed and even possessed one of the bars so he had to die. Shannon ... I don't know why yet, outside of "sucks to be you George my boy."
Mostly because six people must die for the epitaph and the truly evil fucks can't die yet. Everyone with a motive (for the adults) has been spared.
Natsuhi - Revenge.
Eva - Greed, [s]Horo told her to do it[/s]
Hideyoshi - Greed, though to a lesser extent. To be honest, he doesn't seem very viable.
Kanon - Revenge(?), though Shannon dying is mysterious, though it may be due to breaking the "furniture" thing ... though why did he kill her for that?
Kumasawa - Revenge (for Natsuhi)? Doubtful, she's an old lady so I can't imagine her pulling off murdering 6 people and shredding their faces.
Genji - ?
Nanjo - ?
Kinzo - To fulfill the Epitaph. He makes a lot of sense, but it seems more like he's merely offering his family as sacrifices and someone else is doing it.
Battler - ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Jessica - Revenge for her mother and her rightful spot as the heir.
George - Someone else killed Shannon so he snapped.
Maria - ya no.
Beatrice - Ugh ... it's too early to begin looking at her as the killer. No impossible deaths have happened yet, just some brutal hack and slash. That said, her golden butterfly was shown choosing Shannon, so we get a new set of pondering:
What if one of the deceased did kill the other 5, and someone killed the killer? Ugh. That's a bit complex and out there so I don't know if I want to go that route yet.
Gut feeling: Natushi. Revenge arc. She's utmost faithful to the family yet is denied the right to "be" part of the family (the One-Winged Eagle) and she wishes to do what she can for Jessica, who should be the rightful heir if only she was born sooner. Kinzo knows all and knows she killed the six, hence his speech to her about being a true member of the family that bears the "One-Winged Eagle" in her heart.
Trigger: Krauss' hiding the bar of gold, even from his wife. The proof of the legend, the proof of the fortune, yet he hid it from her. She broke down. That, however, only explains Krauss dying, why did Rudolph and Kyrie have to die? Shannon? Fuck, Gohda? Rosa?
Alternate Thesis: Jessica, though I hesitate to look at any of the children as murderers. Pretty much the same reason behind it, though I can't figure out the trigger yet.
Edit: Caught up to where the Anime stopped in the Manga ... they give a lot more backstory to give reasons for the killings. Even BATTLER has his own reasons for some of them. I also didn't really need the picture of the corpses when I was eating.
Could be the killer and "skinner" are different people...hrm.
Manga shots of the deceased (Anime doesn't give you them, at least not yet) (PROBABLY NSFW):
The thing of importance is two of the six are not completely mutilated. It's interesting to note that, really, you can only prove that two of the six are who they "say" they are ... then again, there's 18 people and only 6 missing people so a body double switch doesn't seem too plausible.
Rudolf + Kyrie
Krauss (half face, left side missing), Rosa, Gohda
Shannon (half face, right side missing)
Here's the question: Why are Krauss and Shannon the only one's recognizable as "who they are"? The rest you can tell because of their clothes but only those two have their faces left ... somewhat intact. You know they are dead. Why? Is there a significance to us seeing them dead?
Following my earlier Natsuhi theory, Krauss makes perfect sense. He bears the full weight of the "sins" of the family against Natsuhi for he doesn't even see her as anything beyond "what he married." She isn't important. She isn't family. She's nothing. Krauss must die.
Shannon is an odder one. To Natsuhi, her most important one is Jessica, the rightful heir if she was born earlier. The rightful heir ... if not for George. George himself has done no wrong so Natushi won't kill him but sh still wants him to suffer so she stole Shannon from him.
The other 4 ... I'm not sure yet. Perhaps they grew suspicious. Perhaps they saw. Perhaps they were close. Perhaps, as a sign of her loyalty to the Ushiromiya family (or to Kinzo), she followed the Epitaph to the letter and needed 6 people. Four "tough shit" victims and the two she wanted dead.
Though, to make George suffer, I'd imagine killing Hideyoshi would've made some sense too. Eva as well, if only because Natsuhi loathes her the most.
Perplexing, I suppose.
Also of note, Spice and Wolf 2 EP1 out by some group called Mazui. Never heard of them so I may just wait for Frostii or BSS. Maybe. May just watch to see what the quality is like.
Edit: Mazui sub is missing karaoke, video is so-so (some overfiltering, though it may just be the raw), audio is alright ... I'd give it a ~7.5 or so for this part. Translation is ... tolerable. Surprisingly, for a speed sub, the grammar and what-not is pretty close to proper English.
Personally, I'd wait for a better sub group but I don't really mind waiting. It's perfectly watchable and you probably won't miss much in the translation.
Also, Horo as Horo and not malicious bitch (Eva of Umineko) is good to have back.
Craft x Horo out the ass. Horo is adorable T.T

*Cough* Oh god, I need to go through the first two episodes and jot down the names and stuff and keep track of who is who to what. This one, unlike Higurashi, just throw the things at you abruptly where as Higurashi showed you things slowly - letting you get a handle on the characters and then throwing the cold bucket of water on you.
I can barely remember their names let alone contemplate motives just yet. Though, Battler, Beatrice, or Natsuhi are on the top of my list of potential suspects.
Still, I'm not crossing off the potential that EVERYONE of those adults are in on it, at least the greedy ones. Kind of a "let's deal with this epitaph and conjur up this Beatrice" and then going through and double crossing one another. They are all a bunch of greedy bastards in my opinion. Fan-bitch is the ring leader.
The whole Maria thing was SO predictable though
@SaWII-
LOL, yeah, I've never heard of the group either and downloaded it thinking "well, if it's too sucky I'll just do another group when they release" but I was just SO excited to see the anime.
<3 OMG IT'S SO GOOD TO SEE HORO AGAIN! She didn't show off her mischevious side too much (the side I love about her) but kept glomping onto Lawrence too much. Not that I mind, really, and considering what they went through at the end of the last series, I did expect them to be much closer, but still... while I don't mind HoroxLawrence, they just aren't a pair that I felt should be together - and you know me, I'm the kind that's usually shouting "OK, WHEN ARE YOU GUYS GOING TO DO IT ALREADY?!" XD
:3 Still, the bit with the tail as a hand warmer was fantastic! I loved it!

Row 1: Kinzo (Head of the Family), Krauss (1st Son, Eldest), Natushi (Married in), Jessica (2nd eldest child)
Row 2: Nanjo (Family Doctor), Eva (1st Daughter, 2nd Oldest), Hideyoshi (Married in), George (Eldest child)
Row 3: Rudolf (2nd Son, 3rd Oldest), Kyrie (Second wife, Married in), Battler (3rd eldest child)
Row 4: Genji (Head Servant, Friend of Kinzo), Rosa (2nd Daughter, Youngest), Maria (Youngest child)
Row 5: Shannon (2nd Highest Servant), Kanon (Servant), Gouda/Gohda (Head Chef), Kuwasama (Part-time Maid)
Personally, they do just as well as Higurashi for it ... except there's three times as many characters which makes it a bit harder. I'm just good with names and memorization, I suppose.
Thankfully, they remove 6 of them by episode 2!
"Motives" for the Gold:
Krauss: Greed, mostly; his offer for splitting the money is due to his embezzlement and hoping the family overlooks it.
Natsuhi: ??? None, really ???
Eva: ...money, yo. What a fuck.
Hideyoshi: His business is being bought out by others.
Rudolf: Some trial he wants to make disappear.
Kyrie: ??? None, really ???
Rosa: Business partnerships that I think backed out?
Family Hierarchy (size):
1st - Kinzo
2nd - Krauss
3rd - Eva
4th - Rudolf
5th - Rosa
6th - Jessica (?)
7th - George (?)
8th - Battler
9th - Maria
10th - Natsuhi
11th - Hideyoshi
12th - Kyrie
I think Jessica and George should be swapped due to the age thing but not sure ... Jessica is the daughter of the 2nd.
Edit: To claim Beatrice as a suspect, you're willing to concede that there's 19 people on the island AND that she exists. Then again, I suppose we're lead to believe she exists, though I'm with Kyrie (and Battler) that it's someone else.
I refuse to admit to the existence of the Witches. There's a logical and human explanation.
And what the fuck is Battler's motive? The manga gives a bit more (some stuff about him hating his father) but I can't really devise one. He doesn't believe in witches so he has little reason to follow the epitaph. He really has nothing to do with the family so the gold doesn't interest him (nor does he believe it anyway).
The only thing I can think of is a "just cause" rationale.
As for S&W2, I dunno. I quite like the cute moments for the two, mostly because it IS a change of character for Horo. I quite like them as a pairing, especially considering Horo as a "loner" for her life finally having someone beside her. It makes me smile.
And ... she did enough of her mischievous side, I'd say. The bit with the young merchant that was infatuated with her (and will probably never be seen again, poor guy) and the bit in the cart at the beginning of the episode (her response to "not being his type").
Beatrice - I'm being lead to believe she exists, however, I would find the anime FAR more fun if she DOESN'T exist and I hope that she is simply one of the 18.
Battler's motive - haven't gotten to know him enough, yet. I'm sure something will crop up, but I'm the kind of person that's suspicious of the least-suspicious person XD
Natsuhi - I think you are missing something big in your motives list. For some reason, she really wants to be accepted as part of this family. The fact that no one is giving her that satisfaction leads me to feel that she could have a possbile motive. Perhaps she may possibly feel that if she does find and acquire this hidden stash of gold, that she can use it to proclaim her own position in the family, possibly as someone even 'head' of the family.

So, I was interested in the anime's OP and decided to download the first eppy. Scy, did you watch it, by any chance?
The only thing I can say about it is:
WTF IS THIS SHIT?!! o_O;
That is the STRANGEST, most WEIRDEST, first episode I have EVER watched. The camera angels at first didn't bother me (EF had some weird things with it, too). However, there were others things that bothered me.
From breathtaking CGI shots, to sudden crap-animation o_O, and then back again, and then landing somewhere in between.
To talking about absolute nonsense, school stuff, something that I'm sure is important, and then to needless MC-banter.
To amusing parts, to absolutely weird parts, to fan shot parts, to...
well, let's just say by the end of it not only was I bored, yet interested, yet totally confused that all I can say is, again: WTF?!
I pray to god that the next episode makes more sense.
The best I got out of it:
Boy finds falling girl, reaches out to save her, realizes she's very light. Asks classmate about her next day. Gets attacked by her when he walks out of class. Reveals that he was once a vampire, too, and can take her to some guy to help. Takes her to this guy who then rambles on about some crab thing that REALLY just went over my head, but I'm going to assume that he's going to try to help be non-vampire?
