...debating on making a DnD styled Pokemon campaign just out of boredom. xD To avoid the whole thing about evolving Pokemon being such a big deal, I'm adding advantages to having unevolved Pokemon (such as fighting in cramp quarters is possible with smaller Pokemon.). xD

We decided to roll new characters for my IRL Pathfinder group. Drama and whatever, easier just to start over and change DMs. Which sucks because while I like the guy who's taking over as DM, I don't like his DM style. He's very rigid with the rules and application of the mechanics, which even though I'm quickly moving into intermediary ability, I'm not an expert and don't have everything memorized like he does, so I feel at a disadvantage when making decisions. Another irksome thing, and this is perhaps way worse in my opinion, is that during investigative work he is exceptionally specific. He'll want us to look/say/do a specific action in order to advance the plot, and we'll spend 45-60 minutes spinning around in circles getting frustrated because we can't figure out what we need to do. A good DM should either alter their plans or nudge us in the right direction.

But. Maybe that'll get better, and we're going to rotate DM sessions like we always do so everyone gets a turn to host a little campaign.

My new character, incidentally, is bard. The archaeologist bard archetype in particular.

He wields a whip, wears a fedora, and is always yelling IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!

Huh. Sounds like my old DM. Well, the bad side to his GMing style, anyway.

Though the investigation thing reminds me more of my mistakes as a fledgling GM. ^_^'

My DM's problem, as my friends and I agreed upon is that he's so focused on killing my character specifically that he really makes it difficult for the others to survive. Like, the only hope they would have at beating the monsters we're fighting is if I softened them up.

That and the lack of opportunity. >_>;; We're given so many maps and quest items, but he forces us on these paths that often end up never bringing us to the quest area. I mean, I forced my DM to rework this one quest, because my character inherited a map of this goblin base from my previous one.

I got that map on like our second session ever.

I think next semester, I might ask that one friend of mine to have me join his campaign. He and I are an awesome duo. xD

I honestly miss my old character though... I wish my DM would have our new characters run into his daughter and the old companions of our psychic and knight. later. Seriously, 14 year old(She was 6 last time we saw her), tsundere demon magical girl with somewhat of a father complex, a giant wolf(beloned to the knght) and a Red Oni (the psychic) for companions, and a shitload of money from the end of the previous campaign.

I've never been in any particularly long running campaigns before. Well, except the WoD campaign I've been running for... 2 years now I think. But I guess it's different when you're running it yourself, since you're the one placing all of the references.

There are some very interesting stories there, though, let me tell you. XD

...ugh. All this talk of PnP is reminding me that I need to work on Drifter.

The Archaeologist, by the way, is totally ballin'

To keep up my theme of using Ogre Battle names (ie, Deneb the Witch) I named him Tristan. He's a half-elf bastard son of the current King of Alcessia, Gillian. We decided to keep the same world and advance the timeline by 20 years, so all our old characters make cameo appearances, including Deneb (yay!) Since Deneb's an elf, 20 years doesn't effect her much, but some of the other characters (like Gillian, who is human) advance into old age during this time.

My alt-character, Sir Dontos (yup, ASOIAF reference) the Centaur Cavalier, went on a campaign where he investigated children missing from an orphanage. Turns out a crazy mage was using the children in foul experiments where he turned them into animal-beast things. They rescued the children and were able to save like 12 of them, but the orphans were all gimpy and half-beast turned at that points. Sir Dontos, touched by the orphans' plight and his time spent defending them, made the rash decision to adopt them. ALL OF THEM. So he suddenly becomes the adoptive father of 12 orphans XD So while we were hashing out what happens to our characters in the 20 years we're jumping the story, I told them that Sir Dontos would likely retire from adventuring and return to his people (the Nomen Centaurs) to raise his family.

Our new character creation system uses this points matrix where we got to prioritize some of our starting attributes. For example, you could use an advanced monster race, but that cost 4 points on the matrix the DM created. Picking 30 total points for your ability scores cost 4 points, using the standard 25 cost 2 points, taking only 20 was 0 points, etc. You also chose allegiance, background/traits, and financial situation. It's something new we're trying, but so far I really like it and feel it gives a lot of depth to character creation.

I was the only one who picked a standard race (half elf), so I poured all my points into being Wealthy. This means even though I'm only level 1, I start the game with a weapon worth 8K gold pieces, decent armor, and I get to throw my money around like candy for the purposes of role playing (ie, I bribed guards and tipped extravagantly at the tavern, bought other players drinks, paid extra for my own private room, etc). Later when we start accumulating treasure and stuff, I'll have my own personal funds to buy items.

Tristan's backstory is that he's from an obscenely wealthy noble family. He's taken up archaeology as a hobby and works for the museum as a treasure hunter. He's like a 19th century "archaeologist" of the sort who would loot Egyptian pyramids without regard for proper documentation and set up sensational displays with faulty information. XD Ah <3

He spent most of combat standing behind the front line of melee fighters and whipping the shit out of the enemy to trip or disarm them. I think I'll pour all his feats and stuff into perfection his whip/trip abilities. As an Archaeologist I don't get normal bardic performance, but I do get something called "Archaeologist's Luck" which translates into a buff ability for my own attacks/damage. I also get trap-finding and rogue talents. It's actually a cool take on the bard class, which I've never played before, so I'm looking forward to it!
