So, I'm trying to figure things out in regards to my Cleric's spells for my session this Saturday and I'm a bit confused about one thing. What determines your Caster Level? Do you get new spells as you level up in that class, or is there something else to it?

My friend's playing a Bard as well and it confuses us both. xD At least we're not playing Wizard or Sorcerer.

I don't even know what system you're on currently, but level and attribute-modifiers are common things for it.

Assuming you're talking about DnD/Pathfinder: Unless specified otherwise, your caster level is equal to your level in that caster class. Clerics know all the spells on the Cleric spell list but must prepare them each day pretty much like a Wizard does.

Ah, okay, that was what I was confused about. The learning new spells bit, especially. XD I have a PDF version of the books, so things are a bit cumbersome. It is in the class material, but it actually confuses me with how wordy it is.

Yes, this is 3.5. It's best I learn this all now so I don't screw anything up. xD

Pretty much one of my domains also adds to my Caster Level, if I'm using Good Spells (Good Domain.). I'm guessing the Healing Domain giving me a +1 is a +1 to healing effects and as a mod?

I do look forward to seeing how our characters turn out. XD So far, the looks of things seem to point towards our characters stomping undead. Though, for now, it's just me. My friend wants to make her bard a Knight of the Raven (we're doing Ravenloft after Slaughtergarde, because we end right at a good level to jump right into it). It works RP-wise too, because she needs access to at least 1 Divine spell. So, we're going with my character teaching her some Cleric stuff for that requirement.

Also a quick question because my friend was worried when she saw she had 3e books. Is 3.5 much different than 3e? She has this one book that has stuff for Bards and Rogues and she was looking through feats and spells in it, but she was not sure if she'd be able to use them.

But spell effects and stuff pretty much is still the same?

xD I don't think she'll be doing anything crazy. Though, she originally wanted to play Druid, but opted out for the requirements for Knight of the Raven (she wanted that Celestial Raven.).

There are spells that need higher than level 20 to cap, though. (all the Mass heals, actually) And it does have an effect BEFORE you hit the cap.

But the biggest advantage to the Healing Domain is the ability to use your Domain slots for healing, yes.
