The whole image thing should really be dispelled. Almost any study reels in results averaging that 50% female Americans are gamers, comparable to 55% that are male. To be considered a gamer in such studies, the participant needs to play a certain amount of games per week (so that doesn't count that office worker who clicks away at Solitaire when no one is looking.) That number will draw closer to closer as the older generation fades. I know very few female gamers who are vocal about it, so that can be part of the tapestry. Other parts of the world, especially Asia, is quite different.

The last I read, there's an estimated 40% of the gaming population that is female [in the US]. There's the stereotype that girls don't play "real" games, though. I think EO has the combination of being old school + hardcore, and therefore less friendly to the "casual game" crowd that is generally favored by females. All of these, of course, are ridiculous generalizations because this forum, girl gaming networks, etc etc all prove otherwise.

Although yours compares ratios of gamers within genders, whereas mine is genders within gamers. Interesting!
