@Trifkin: Excellent selection.
That song has come up on Pandora a whole bunch of times in the past couple of days and I'm not complaining.

Edit: sure, why not (although I've probably played it before in here):

Re: Music you're listening to atm?
Yeah, Cosmic Love is right on target but it's not as clear and simple as I like to listen to when I write -- but the theme/lyrics/feeling is exactly perfect. I've also worn myself out on that song by listening to it when I cook and drive. I had it on my playlist for about two months. Good suggestion though!
The piano solo....
Actually, this is getting creepy. I know that song!. It's Beautiful World by Hikaru Uteda, and it's utterly bizarre that you suggested two songs I already have and like. Although I'd never heard the piano version, but I will admit that it sounds too plain just as a piano. Piano and strings, maybe? I'll have to hunt for an instrumentation version with more oomph to it, not just a youtube video of an EGL pianist.
Further examples of what I'm looking for (possible reposts):
But I'm a little tired/sick of these songs, since I've been listening to them for months/years by this point.

To Kino, with love:
The last one might not go with the others... and it may be too powerful, musically, for the mood you need to set... but it gets me every time. T_T
EDIT: That Lain song reminds me very strongly of something... Hrmm. Sixpence None The Richer, maybe? I'll have to think on it. It's tickling my brain.

Re: Music you're listening to atm?
Unrequited love and emotional ruin? Okay, I'll try... I actually have a particularly hard time writing while I'm listening to something that has any lyrics at all. But I do like to use songs to get in a particular mood before I write. Actually, it doesn't matter what the music is like provided I'm not in control of it. That's partially why I like writing in bars, the music is something of white noise, but at the right bars I get to hear some really great stuff that I hadn't previously been aware of.
Anyway. I will try and suggest some stuff you may not have heard before that is on the softer side. I can't guarantee you'll like any of this, nor that it will fit into what you're looking for, but its worth a shot.
I realized as I was building this list that many of these songs begin rather slow and soft and build, so I do hope thats not off putting. This is some of the stuff that gets me into a writing frame of mind.
I don't know if any of that helped. But those were the songs that came to mind, so theres that.
