Could you perhaps list a few specific examples to go by, Jubelon? Or maybe some favorite genres or artists?

Sure. c: The three songs I recommended to Kino are good examples, but here are some others:
Tempo and genre could vary widely, but songs such as these evoke a sense of somber peace, heartache, or a thirst for comfort or understanding. Any songs about love in uncertain times or trying to find truth through turmoil.

Oh, Kino! Here's a recommendation I have for you:
Your request really made me think of this song, I hope you'll see why when you hear the lyrics.

I'm sorry, Kino & Jubelon, but I don't think I can help you there. I listen more to musical style than lyrics. I'm also not a writer.

@Kino: Yeah, I thought Gravity may have been on the slow side for what you were looking for, using Cosmic Love as a model. I don't listen much to music of that particular type, and Gravity was the closest match in my library to your requested themes and instrumentation.
@Jubelon: Damn if I don't have at least a few songs in my library like Shell, but I can't find them. I very much like grungy rock music that evokes a feeling of inner peace, acceptance or contentment in a world of uncertainty—especially a dark and dysfunctional one.
A song that feels similar to Shell is the Lain ED, Far Shout. Gotta love the guitars in both.
Moving on to a different kind of sound, we have one of my favourite travelling songs that makes me feel warm and at peace. Whenever I listen to this song I always imagine running toward something in a grassy plain of indeterminate size, against a sweet-scented wind. (To be morbid for a second, it often feels like the flashing by of my life the moment before I die. But anyway.)
Another thing that comes to mind, reading your request, is the Outer Limits episode, . The episode deals with technology and human communication and connectedness. During the ending scene, the main character plays "Someone to Watch Over Me", by Ella Fitzgerald. I love the expression on his face in the last few seconds when he looks up at his new home, that he's accepted where he belongs now and he's going to start fresh. One of my favourite episodes, and I think one that fits with the general theme of your request.
I've included all 5 clips in spoilers for anyone interested in watching the whole episode.
Somewhat relatedly, Jubelon, do you know of the ? If you don't, I think you would like them. ^^

Thanks for the recommendations, negzee. c: I'll let you know what I think after I've given them all a good listen.

Why do I love Explosions in the Sky so much? And why do I so often forget about them?
