Because I watched The Other Guys earlier this evening.
And it seems so silly now in 2010 that they used to censor words like "ass" in the 90s.
Music you're listening to atm?

^Very odd and interesting song, Kino. I don't like her style of singing (the best way to describe my reaction to it is that it sounds like she's falling asleep) even though I hear a lot of singers using it. Chalk this up to a deficiency of taste on my part if you wish.
What did interest me was the sound, which is more important, isn't it? I've actually never heard of that instrument before (the Kalimba), but I like it.
Funny, because I often find myself scratching my head at indie music.

There's an album called "Rock Candy" which is Earthbound songs redone with orchestra and the like, higher quality work and all. Nathan has them, so that's what mostly he gave to me on the mix tapes.
I understand what you mean about "apathetic" tone, and agree. It's that sort of indie sound that I've heard elsewhere in music. I generally trend away from songs in English in the first place, so not that I've heard very much anyway.
Regarding Kino's singing... can probably count on one hand the number of people who have actually heard me sing. I am absolutely tone-deaf and suck, completely, so I don't do it often, or at least not where anyone can hear me. I do love to sing along in my car, but with the music up loud enough that I can't really hear myself.
(The other day, in fact, Mr Kino and I were listening to the radio, and a Linkin Park song came on. He hates them. I laughed and told him that, in my angsty teen years, I was all about them. I then admitted that I knew the song in question, and could sing every word. He's like "Oh, yeah? Prove it!" So I did.)
As for Earthbound music, here is my favorite:

Although, obviously, I prefer the Rock Candy version, which I was unable to find.
This is another super-catchy tune:

This plays in my head whenever I'm on my bicycle, without fail.

The lyrics for Smiles and Tears were written sixteen years ago. Recently with the release of Keiichi Suzuki's collective album, we can hear the lyrics accompany the song officially for the first time. Aside from the words "I miss you". That could be heard in any of the original compositions.
