...... *looks for history-buff Kino* Umm... I've picked up a new book series which seems to be going ok so far, but, anyways, you know, it's hard enough that fantasy authors want to come up with complex-sounding names for their fantasy characters, but it's even harder when it's based off another languaged, like french in this case (I think)

HOW do you PRONOUNCE: Temeraire?!

Is it Tem-er-A or Tem-er-AIR ... I dunno... fucking french language... I still don't even know how the hell Despereaux is pronounced Des-per-O ... WE ARE MISSING SOME VOWEL AND CONSONANT SOUNDS IN THERE!! AND WHERE THE HELL DID THE X DISAPPEAR TO?!!

Desperaux is pretty obviously "des-per-o" in my mind. The x is silent and "-au" is that sound for many words of that origin.

As for Temeraire, if it's the French word it's probably "tay may rehr" or something like that.

I don't think that's quite right 'cause it picks on a mentally challenged dragon that has trouble saying the name and, according to the book, it says "Temrer"

Tay-meh-rair, Deh-speh-roh. I don't think any syllable is particularly more emphasised than the others.

- Drink the whole bottle if you see two different cover volumes on a shelf that is NOT the normal Fantasy/Sci-fi shelf it sits on.


.....by the time I was out of barnes and nobles today I had drunk at least two bottles and taken seven different drinks - and I never went near the fantasy/sci-fi section.

..... It's like Twilight... only worse... 'cause it's not Twilight... it's a nine year old book....

Actually I didn't mean anything particularly "bad" in that sentence except that 'it's as popular as Twilight but it's not a book on sexy vampires and it's a book that's been out for 9 years - why the sudden fucking hype?! BECAUSE THEY ARE MAKING A MOVIE ON IT?!" .... And really if I may be allowed to continue on with my little tirade, at least when Twilight was being hyped, there was merchandise and more than just one book being hyped out, and Twilight's cover never changed until the movie came out.

It's just really annoying to walk around every corner and see

every time I see it I feel like it's a ghost... that's following me... changing shape... reading my every thought.... ..... making me paranoid... when will be the next encounter o_O;

I was actually going to buy that the other day when I was in a book store. But I'm incredibly shallow when it comes to book covers, and I hated the only one there was in the store. But my school library has it, at least.

I walked out with some sexy Lovecraft stuff, so at least I managed to be somewhat classy.

Not a movie but a TV series (which is shaping up decently and I'm quite happy that they went from "We're doing the first season and hoping for the best" to "Well fuck thanks for the moneyhats guys, whole series adaptation!"). There's I want to say there's like 6 regular covers (before the TV series hype) that varied based on year (i.e., after every other book released) and whether or not it was part of a boxset.

I imagine they would've done a similar thing without the movie with the release of A Dance with Dragons since it's been like 300 years since the last book or something.

Though, as far as Game of Thrones covers go, I like the one I have:

I always prefer the original cover over post-movie cover with the actors/movie logo.
