^_^ Read a book in store today called Goblin Quest by Jim C. Hines - my god it's so cute! I absolutely love it. :3 Ended up purchasing it and am now more than half way through.

BTW, are any of you guys Good Read members? :\ I keep updating my profile but *sigh* I feel so lonely and am now at the point of "why am I bothering?" though it is nice to see how many books I am reading and have read.

I has Art of War, with some commentaries, and Zhuge Liangs Way of the General. Have had it a few years. Would find the edition, but books are packed.

Edit: My favourite part, "hit soft things with hard things, and avoid hard things hitting your soft things."

Here's a good question for you. It's one I'm kinda faced with.

Am I a bitch for not wanting to read a series of books because I'm afraid that the author will pass away before the series is complete?

I just absolutely HATE not knowing the ending. I would much rather NEVER have picked the book up than end up with an unfinished story.

I mean, if the book series is completed before he dies then of course I'll purchase, maybe even if there were notes left behind so others could POSSIBLY complete the story..... *sigh*

What are your thoughts and opinions?

Since that's 99% about A Song of Ice and Fire, the ending is known by the producers of the HBO show so, if all else fails, an ending will happen.

But, I do feel sad going into a series that won't ever end due to the author passing away / getting murdered. Kaze no Stigma, for instance (the Light Novels, not the anime) will never end since the author passed away and noone knows what was supposed to happen. Sad day.

"What is man but a miserable pile of secrets?"
~dracula

I still can't believe some people keep the ending of a thing they do a secret to everyone, I can understand a fear of leaks and all, but what I don't get is people sending it with them to the grave. I mean, if I did that, I would at least make a secret manuscript, hide it in a wall, and tell them a puzzle in my will that leads to the key to the box in the wall. Yeah, that would be pimp, but I totally derailed myself there, oops.

Actually, Brandon Sanderson has already picked up where Robert Jordan left off in the Wheel of Time series, and should be wrapping up the final volume next year. I don't know how well he's done with it, as I haven't read past Eye of the World, but at least you know someone's carrying it through to the end.

And no, Maxine, thinking like that doesn't make you a bitch in any way, shape or form. I'm like that, too. I cannot STAND the suspense of cliffhangers, let alone something that simply goes unfinished forever. I hate two-part episodes (and yet love them at the same time because they're so damn compelling), and I REFUSE to even START a series of books unless I know the entire series is easily available to me.

On a somewhat unrelated note: MAXINE! You've read Dealing With Dragons (Patricia Wrede)! I just saw that on GoodReads and you have no idea how happy that makes me. You're the first person I've encountered, ever, who's read that series, apart from myself. It's one of my absolute favorites in that genre. : DDDD /endgushing

@Gooogly2 - /pats There, there.

LOL Trifkin. The Enchanted Forest Chronicles were... EPIC. That's all I can say. It's why it's in my "precious to me" section. I've reread the series about six times. It's due for another re-read, too. Been a while.

^_^ It was characters like Killer that just made the series so FUN.

If you liked the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, you should read Hines's Jig the Goblin trilogy. I'm currently on book 2. There's just a certain flair and FUN in the book that just parallels with EFC.

:3 Oh and feel free any time to talk about books I've read, whether to hold a conversation or just want to ask if it was any good. I'm a horrible person when rating the books on good-reads... o_O I... I can't give any book lower than a 3 stars. If you see a book lower than 3 stars it's REALLY bad. Uggg, but it's so hard to rate! I like each book for different reasons and just when I rate the books it's not about whether it was good or not but how it appealed to me at the time and... >_< gah!!

T-T I HATE HATE HATE rating books.

But back to my original topic: DAMMIT, SCY, HOW DID YOU GUESS?!

Or did I post the sentiment on here before?

*Sigh* Yeah, it's about Game of Thrones etc. I purchased the first book but then I saw the author's pic and realized o_o umm... and then realized the space of time in between each book. >_>; Uggg...

Also: why is a book leaking such a bad thing? I mean, even Stephanie Meyers was all like "OMG! I'M NOT WRITING ANYMORE!"

o_O; fear of losing money? why? ppl are still going to find it in other ways or get it from the library or something else or whatever. If nothing else I'd feel honored that someone would want to know the book quickly. I know what it's like (DAMMIT, RIORDAN, HURRY UP!!). I dunno, just make notes and shit so people WILL know the endings to books in case something happens. *shrugs* I dunno, maybe I'm not seeing a part of the bigger picture here.

@Maxine - Yes, that series was just so much awesome. I've given it away a couple of times as gifts, but I don't know if the recipients ever got to reading it. I need to go back and read it again, myself, come to think of it! : O

And I understand about the rating issue. I used to be that way, but, thanks to GoodReads and their little "liked it," "really liked it," and "it was amazing," mouse-overs for the various stars, I'm a lot more comfortable with rating things honestly now.

The Jig the Goblin series looks ridiculously adorable. : D

@Zamisk - Ooooh, that does have a nice bit of ring to it. Aaah, I see. It looks like he does a lot of novelizations of movies and television shows (Star Wars, Alien VS Predator, 24). Interesting! Sometimes those can be really well done. : D I've got things like that waiting on my shelf right now, in fact. Namely Metal Gear Solid and Batman... can't remember any others.

@Leaks conversation - I guess there's a sense of disappointment if things are revealed earlier than you'd planned. Like when you buy someone the perfect birthday gift, anticipating exactly how their face will light up when they open it... and then you find out they've snooped and already know what it is (or they begged enough and someone else told them). u. u

@Zamisk - Oh, sorry, I know, I just don't know what to call that type of book. They're based in that universe that's already been established but are a completely original storyline... I remember reading one of the Halo novels that was like that. The events took place before the first game's story, and I really enjoyed it. I had no idea Master Chief's real name was John.

EDIT:
@Maxine - I've added it to my "to read" list. : 3 And I see you've read the Temeraire series! I've been curious about that one. Is it as fantastic as it looks? The author apparently loves Patrick O'Brian and Jane Austen, which is exciting to me because they're two of my favorites as well.
