Re: Favorite Books and Current Reads

Not me, I've always been like this. I'm like this with video games, too, generally. If I set it down for too long -- BAM! Never going back.

I get a book-urge, it's usually to re-read something, or maybe a certain section out of a favorite book. I also can pick up and put down research books. I've been working through relevant sections of Culpeper's Herbal for a few weeks now, just idly looking stuff up while I'm waiting for water to boil or whatever. But starting a new book? No, I'm very loyal to my "Current Read"

Incidentally...

@The Catch Trap

well I'll be damned. This book went from "omg can't put down SO GOOD" to "I can't wait to be done with it"

Like I didn't read it at all yesterday, because I simply no longer cared about the characters or the plot. My favoritism is a fickle bitch, it seems.

I will finish it, of course. I'm only 150 pages away from the end. But, meh.

I can't really say too much about what caused my disinterest without ruining the plot through.

Nah, even if I put even a game down I'm bound to return to it. I just need the proper trigger or spark. Usually 'new release' hype will work for games (tch, I actually popped in an old Harvest Moon game one day and my sister entered the room and asked "So, what new Harvest Moon game is coming out." "Huh? What makes you think..." "You haven't played in a while and suddenly you're playing? You usually do that when you've read something new." It was the week that I was reading about Rune Factory Oceans. She caught me.)

For books... I dunno what triggers it. I suspect that the new season of NCIS and its season premiere is probably what resparked my interested in actually picking up Dan Brown's Lost Symbol.

But, either way... even Game of Thrones... I'll probably return to it... eventually... when I give a damn about a fantasy book without any real magic involved.

That's the thing, I'd rather not "oh yeah forgot about that cool reminder bro" to get back to something.

:3 But you'd rather put it down and NEVER pick it up again? I don't get it? *shrugs*

Anywho, I have a date with a book tonight. Dunno which of my current reads I'll pick to read, but I plan on making some progress before bed. *snuggles down with her nook*

...no I just don't set it down.

Obviously if there's something that draws my attention back to it then great. But I'd rather not be in the situation where my attention is needed to be drawn back to it.

It's not always that my attention "needs" to be drawn back into it. Not always. But it's all about my mood and interest level. I often find my own way back when the mood hits me. *shrugs* That's why I mentioned I may be prone to moving books on and off my current-reads list. Just if I'm not in the mood to read something, forget it. It's dropped.

I didn't need the anime announcement for P4 to remind me "hey I need to finish that game" but it set me in the mood. I became re-interested in it. The hype just carries over. And now I've replayed P4 from the beginning again and am currently in the second to last dungeon.

Another case in point: I've mentioned before I've never completed an FF game. That's no secret. And it's not like my attention needs to be drawn back in. :3 But playing Dissidia I suddenly think "uggg... now I wanna actually play an FF game again." Which has lead me to get roms for ff2, break out my old gba FF6 game, and I even purchased FFIX on my PSP. .... .... -_- I doubt I'll ever complete a single one. Dammit... But, there it is. I'm in the mood for it, so I'm now obssessing.

Disgaea, too. On and off again relationship, but you guys talking about it recently has me feeling the urge to try my hand again at actually getting somewhere.... -_-;

Aaaaah so much to catch up on.

I finished reading Midnight last week! I enjoyed it, a very charming book with a sweet romance. The book has a rather neat twist on urban fantasy and paranormal historical. The story was small-scale and very self-contained, but I felt the characters were endearing and their exchanges were cute.

I'm reading Blameless now, and will start Heartless as soon as I'm finished. I liked Carriger's first novel, Soulless, and it's worth it to keep reading. Her books are so alight with charm and style. They're great for a relaxing, fun read.

My reading has slowed greatly and I think one reason is my increased frugality, not buying every book that attracts me as soon as I've completed the last one. I ought to get a few more to kick start things. Although I do have several more Dresden Files novels I could be reading, I suppose.

Kino, thanks for the impression of Counterpoint; from that I've decided I probably won't spend the $15 on it and will move to another one on my list.

After Blameless and Heartless, I still have Melusine (yes ._.). I do want a new gay romance but I'm going to have to mill over my choices.

._. I hate it when I can't decide what to read. .

If I can hang on to my non-fiction/history/learny-brainy mood, I might dive into when I get home. Just in case, though, I'd appreciate anyone suggesting some fiction for me to start on. It isn't uncommon for me to be reading one fiction and one non-fiction book at the same time these days.

So it turns out my problem with not reading Spice and Wolf was not something to do with the writing, or the story... it was because I just kept trying to read it right before bed. When I just want to go to bed.

Otherwise, it goes great with the economics course I'm taking now.

Spice & Wolf being over now is probably the saddest (and best, I guess?) thing in the world.

And the whole taking 6 more years for all of them to be released here.

Really, more of that last bit than anything else.

Spice and Wolf is such a clever and warming series. I'm not very far in but have become quite taken with it. And I thought I wouldn't like it.

Lawrence and Holo are adorable and the story centers around some the most unique conflicts I've encountered. (It also doesn't hurt that it reminds me a lot of my book, making it very inspiring.)

Last night I finished reading Blameless: an excellent book, probably my favorite of the series so far. The humor and charm just never let up but avoid becoming tired. I've jumped right into Heartless, and it's turning out to be more of the same. I'm sure I'll be a bit anxious for Timeless to come out next year.

I think after this I'll just go for it and finish Melusine.
