Oh, I thought you had asked a while ago for me to rec some gay fantasy? You can check out my "favorites" on goodreads -- pretty much those and anything I gave 4-5 stars to I heartily recommend. There's even some "straight" fantasy on there like The Last Unicorn, The Wolf Hunt, and Game of Thrones, and probably some history books. HA! I'm boring.
I heard the Rothfuss books are good. I guess when he did Name of the Wind we had a booksigning here at the store, but I didn't live in Virginia then. We got a box of signed copies from the publisher for the Wise Man's Fear and sold out within a week -- I even shipped one of them to Sweden.
edit:
I've starting rec'ing Soulless at work, just so you know. Could you give me a 2-3 sentence spiel as to what it's about? Super vague and nothing plot specific, like when I describe Game of Thrones I say things like "It's really hardcore epic fantasy, but subtle on the fantastical side of things. Very much about the characters and political scheming -- reads more like a historical fiction than a sword & sorcery" I definitely am not going to try and describe the Starks or Westeros or the plot -- that shit's boring, they can read the back of the book to find that out. What my goal is, as the bookseller, is to describe the feel and emotion of the book -- the narrative character, not the capital-C capital-N Character Narrative -- I'm going to tell you things like if it's "fun and fluff" or "serious and solemn" rather than what the book's about.
Oh, Maxine, I've also got the Ranger's Apprentice in the store to rec out to young readers. Care to give me some book-buzzword sentences to describe it?
