This is seriously a book about books (+ a mystery). It takes the time to, whenever possible, discuss at length about reading and the vast worlds to come from it:

"...few things leave a deeper mark on a reader than the first book that finds its way into his heart. Those first images, the echo of words we think we have left behind, accompany us throughout our lives and sculpt a palace into our memory to which, sooner or later--no matter how many books we read, how many worlds we discover, or how much we learn or forget--we will return. For me those enchanted pages will always be the ones I found among the passageways of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books."

I don't think there's been a (major) character introduced yet that doesn't have some relation to books. Bookkeepers, Librarians, Writers, failed Writers, Collectors, , and so on. I guess the main character is the furthest from one as he's merely a reader.

Just put the new John Green one on hold, hopefully it's as good as you say, Trif!

I keep adding more books to the queue without making any progress in what I'm actually reading (too many games to play aaaaaa).

(Honestly, that is a fabulous cover that was ever-so enticing by itself. That it's a tale of murder is only for the better.)

(Though, to be fair, I was planning on more Haruki Murakami works anyway)

(It's getting a lot of good press and much focus on it as a "Read it if you think you know King" kind of commentary.)

(...why not?)

Steam sale going on right now means I'll probably be adding an utter crapton of more games; meanwhile, I'm in the mood to get as many 10% cash back purchases I can right now through e-books :|

I found myself in a used book store. It wasn't used before, but most of the users simply took to reading their mangas and other inane actions other than buying. Funny how it seemed to have most of its buyers during its closing sale. But I digress. Looking through the books, some already damaged with bent corners like it would've in my possession, some just piled with stacked copies of the same book, one caught my tired eyes. It was Ghosts of War by George Mann, a second in its series. Knowing fully well that I would eventually spend my money, I opt to buy this book on a whim. As I went outside and waited for the evening transportation to arrive, I began to read...

...And realize I suck at delivering that Noir feel. The book's setting is an interesting one. It incorporates a mix of steampunk, noir, and a bit of alternate history with a superhero feel that could seemingly adapted into a graphic novel easily. In it, the main protagonist, The Ghost find himself going against mysterious skeletal machines kidnapping civilians with no random or motive. Adding to the trouble, his friend in the police force has to find a British spy within the city who supposedly is about to start a war between America and Brittan, and his old flame comes back again. Are these events related? Will the Ghost prevail against this metal menace? Find out by reading this novel! And be sure to read the first installment, Ghosts of Manhattan.

@Scy

Perfume is a fucking awesome book. You should watch the movie, too, but only after you read the book.

@reading

Since I last posted, I've read:

The Farthest Shore by Ursula K Leguin
Psycop: Partners (omnibus of "Among the Living" and "Criss Cross") by Jordan Castillo Price
Gatekeeper by Rayne Auster
Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale

Absolutely loved Psycop, liked very much Wicked Gentlemen, lol'd through Gatekeeper and was disappointed-yet-not-at-all-surprised with Farthest Shore.

Will you be reading the other Earthsea books as well? They're quite different in tone, but pretty good too.

No, I won't. I just wanted to read that one because of Arren. I didn't especially like it. Just not my style.

While on vacation this week, I finished the Hunger Games trilogy for what I believe was the third time (note to self: do not read the ending of Mockingjay in public; you cry every time and it's embarrassing) and have started in on Harry Potter, round two. :)

"Vin tried to back away further, but realized she was up against another crowd of people."

Well of ascension, by Brandon Sanderson.

I'm scared...
