So I finally got around to starting A Game of Thrones. I'm never going to be able to remember all these names.

So...

Rowlings announced that she is going to start a new series. No info, title, or anything has been announced.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/2 ... 96367.html

*smirks* I knew she couldn't stay away for long. While I might not have appreciated the last half of her series, I do appreciate when an author LOVES writing and loves her work. And every bit of it showed in every sentence.

^_^ Once a writer, always a writer.

I just hope I like her new series, whatever it is. :(

Oooh, a new book from Rowling? Aimed at adults? Interesting. I will definitely keep an eye on that.

Lately I've been plowing through short story collections. They're fun to read, kind of like 'pick up and play' games, you know? Like between classes I can always read a short story and stuff.

If I was JK Rowling I would never publish anything. It's doomed to be compared to Harry Potter, and I'm such a pessimist I'm going to say that it's not going to be all that good, because she's honestly not that great of a line-for-line writer. This coming from someone who really likes Harry Potter.

If I was her I would just sit around writing fanfiction for my own series, like Maki Murakami. Sit on my giant fucking pile of money and write fanfiction. All day long.

True story.

Unrelated, but I read Hemovore by Jordan Castillo Price and it was pretty good. I liked her Psycop series better, and the ending was a bit off, but I liked the vampire-virus/HIV analogies and her worldbuilding for it.

Can't seem to get started on a new book.

I just finished reading The Summer of the Ubume by Natsuhiko Kyogoku. Slow to start, but once the mystery begins, it grabs you and grabs you hard. I spent the whole day reading it and am still thinking about the ending. It is pretty thought-provoking, draws upon all sorts of folklore, and also really dark...the imagery gets really disturbing near the end. It's too bad the rest of the series probably won't be translated, but Ubume stands on its own pretty well.

Now to finish The Thorn Birds...mannn it bugs me how uh, pedo-y Father Ralph comes off as. And he's the main love interest for Maggie...and they met when she was like...what, ten? That's crazy stuff yo. Apparently it's the Australian Gone With The Wind though, and since I actually really enjoyed Gone With The Wind (I can't believe I like that book, it's really racist and I don't even read romance novels) I figured I'd give this a try. Not finding it as interesting so far though.

Gone with the Wind is my favorite book, and it is SO racist.

I freaking love it though.

So these are cute: http://www.sarahenni.com/2012/02/10/go-away-im-reading/

And useful! I've been approached while reading in public lots of times. I wonder if these could have prevented that.

I freaking hate when people as "what'cha reading?" and then try to talk to you

bitch

I am reading

back the fuck up

Also I can't seem to get started on a book. I've read the first 20-30 pages and then discarded:

- The Chosen by Ricardo Pinto
- Drawing Blood by Poppy Z Brite

and now I'm struggling through Strange Fortune by Josh Lanyon.

Pfft. I'm tempted to set this one aside and start something like Bound, but the damn thing is too big to fit in my purse. That might be something I save for the plane...

See, that much is fine. Sometimes, though, when you're really into a book and the person is trying to start a very awkward, forced little chat, it can be a bit... trying.

I've been reading A Game of Thrones. I never really saw the show, so I've kind of been watching clips that correspond with where I am in the book currently. Unfortunately, I forgot that Sean Bean's a walking spoiler, when it comes to his characters... *facepalm*

The Hunger Games.

A friend gave me the first book a few weeks ago. Opened it up when I had a free moment... and the next thing I know I'd wolfed down the kindle editions of all three books, saw the movie on opening night, and got my shiny hardcover trilogy box set in the mail, in the span of about a week.

Man, she wasn't kidding when she warned me I wouldn't be able to put it down.

Yes, yes, I should totally have been reading the ItL book club books... I have a lot of catching up to do there.
