I'd like to point out that neither of the girls is even in their teens yet. Hell, Arya is still in her single digits. And it shows.

*nods* I got that impression already. Bran is seven. The story makes a great point of telling that. While I couldn't find the ages of the others (or remember them), I'm under the impression of the following ages:

Jon(14), Robb(13), Sansa(11), Arya(9), Bran(7), and Rickon(infant) (FYI... I had to look up these names *sigh*)

Still, I started from Bran and considering the wife's almost psychotic devotion to having her husband's children, I knew they couldn't be too far off.

I think the ages, though, is absolutely bothersome and I think the author forgets their ages frequently, too. There are too many times that Sansa and Arya appear much like teens in their arguments. The idea of Sansa being betrothed to that one psychotic prince makes me roll my eyes, but I find it more disturbing that at that age for the boy, he is already THAT corrupt.... WTF.... he talks like he's a fucking sixteen year old.

It's a weird combination of the children being young and the setting's age of majority being earlier. And noble women of the setting are pretty much raised from birth to get married. Being 11 means that Sansa is about 2/3 of the way to marriage, which is really weird to think about.

Though the prince... I'm going to have to blame his parents on that one. That is one fucked up family.

Well, the story lines don't seem to have much in common but the setting/world is similar and there's a part in the second book involving a purdy nekkid lady (as there seems to be in the Witcher 2 trailer)... I dunno, you would probably like The Kingkiller Chronicles, scy. It isn't nearly as political or complex as the Game of Thrones stuff but it's still really really really goooood.

I am SO anxious for the third and final book to come out. He hasn't even given it a title yet. Dx

Haha, no, scy, you don't give off that vibe. Those were just the only connections I could scrounge together for you off the top of my head. :3 No worries.

I've just been reading some speculative threads regarding that series... I think I need to re-read both books. Like, yesterday. I'm not much of a re-reader but I think I'll end up reading these about three times total.

@Scy

A bit late, but I did find out from Hachette the status the book you wanted. It's in the weird limbo of not being out-of-print, but at this time there is no stock in their warehouse and there is not a schedule re-print.

So essentially, the only way to get the book at this point in time is if the seller has it physically in their hands to sell you. I'd try calling brick-and-mortar shops, especially small/indie stores that might have slower stock rotations. I already checked my indie game/comic shop that quite often will have massively out of print shit just sitting on the shelves; they didn't have any of the books in that series, let alone the volume you needed.

Woah. Something must have triggered that jump. That is insane. I'm seeing recent sales (May-July) on ebay in only the $10-12 range, so this price hike is a very recent development. Judging by the seller profiles, it seems to me a case of algorithms gone wild. Once one seller crosses the insanity threshold it just spirals out of control -- probably only a handful listed sellers actually have physical copies. The others have their prices set to be a profit margin percentage higher than the cheaper listing. If you bought the $800 copy, that seller would buy the $600 copy and then turn around and sell it to you.

I set my used book alerts for you, just in case one should pop up on the sites I frequent. I've occasionally gotten lucky this way.

Another strategy to use, if you're willing, is to search international sites. Here's what I've turned up so far:

eBay Canada (the listing is French, but it looks like the book is in English): http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Book-Girl-and-Fa ... 881wt_1143

Amazon Canada (may not be available, the 2-3 weeks shipping indicates to me the title is "backordered" ie; not available. Back ordered means they have more "on order" with the publisher, but I spoke with Hachette and they do not have copies with which to fill orders): http://www.amazon.ca/Book-Famished-Spir ... 125&sr=8-1

I would keep an eye on international ebay. I saw a copy sell for $12 as recently as July 9th. All the markets needs is 3-4 legitimate copies to become available for the price to drop back into the $30-40 range -- or, hell, if Hachette issue an re-print you'll see the entire bottom of the market drop out.

Yeah, I checked around for that book as well and haven't found it yet. I do still have a dozen or so Houston area bookshops to call, though, so I haven't given up! But they all closed at 6 today so I'll have to try tomorrow. : /

You might have better luck checking your local comic book shops that carry manga...

OH FUCK!!! :( So... a book I've been waiting for, for a really long time by one of my favorite authors Jim C. Hines comes out in a few days. It's, as I found out, going to be sold for $11.99 .......

Shadow of Night, that I've REALLY wanted since reading the first book, is $12.99... I've been putting it off because my god.... so much money :(

..... So... now I've decided OK... FINE... I WILL SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY ON A BOOK THIS PAY CHECK ...........................

T-T But which one do I choose? Granted I've been waiting for Libriomancer for much longer, BUT I do know that I am SO enjoying Shadow of Night (that I spent an hour reading last time I was in Barnes and Nobel). ........... What should I do? Which book should I choose?

*sniffles* ... And is there anyone with a Nook that has either of these books (or well SoN since Libriomancer isn't out yet) and wouldn't mind doing a "Lend Me" :3 ....... :( I can hope.....
