Hm.... I'd suggest buying the one that is less likely to decrease in price by the next time you're ready to buy a book.

So, I've finished reading The Name of the Wind for the second time and would be delighted to pass it along to one of you lovelies here. I'll be replacing my copy with either an older edition (I like the cover art better) or I'll wait and see if he does something special for when the third book comes out. : 3
Raise your hand if you want me to send this one to you!
EDIT: Aaaand we have a winner (via pm)! As soon as I receive an address I will be sending the book to one Mr. Lostman.

Hurray!

You might try borrowing ebooks from your local library. I haven't tried it yet myself but I've known some people who do it all the time and love it.

already have a membership. mine sucks. the end.
They rarely have new book titles and those that I would want to read have only 1-3 copies and a waiting list of 30 odd people, so that by the time I DO get the book (which can be checked out for the max length of a month), I don't even remember wanting to read it.... or have worked up the money to just go ahead and purchase it.

Updated my good reads profile and realized.... wow... this has been a rather disappointing year for me in terms of book reading.

*sigh* Well... I mean, I DID have a competition to win... still.... *sigh*

It's okay, Maxine! You've just been busy! I bet you'll do better next year. :3
I'm thinking about doing a book give away draw-names-from-a-hat type thing. Maybe for a mass market copy of The Name of the Wind and/or Blue Moon Rising (another fantasy favorite of mine, by Simon R. Green)...
Also, I miss book club. ;-;
Has anyone here read Divergent or Insurgent? I'm halfway through Insurgent and I'm kind of bored, but I think it's just because A) I forgot I didn't want to read young adult anymore and B) I really want to be reading The Wise Man's Fear.
EDIT:
Also also! I think was specifically generated with scy in mind.

I got Drood at the airport Saturday. Not gonna lie, a big reason for that was the name. I've been busy this week, so I haven't gotten very far yet. Not really liking the narator, though, and I don't expect that to change (because of the framing device).

*sigh* So... is out... :3 You guys should check it out and support one of my favorite authors.
^_^ I love his book series because he just takes fun old magic tropes and pokes fun at them. has a special place in my heart. Currently still working through his Princess Novels series.

So many books... so little time and money.

Oh god, what is he doing to that book? I've heard of burning books, but stabbing them?
I'll check it out, if only for the cool title. =P

Mine has been a life of shame...
So since I now have the second Book Girl ... book, I went ahead and finished up reading Book Girl and the Suicidal Mime. I posted my thoughts on it before from the manga. I'll say that the manga adaptation is beyond faithful and some of impact is better just by virtue of actual images.
Spoiler-lite but still: There is one notable bit that the manga does a lot better
That said, the suffering overall is told better in the novel. It's presented ever-so-slightly in a different sequence which really improves the impact of things. The general "mood" of the story comes across better due to it. You kind of flow from start to end in a general trend towards things getting progressively darker.
I do wonder where this story falls in regards to the depression factor compared to the rest. As far as I know, it has the darkest book to draw inspiration from (No Longer Human) but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll have the dreariest story..
So anyway, Book Girl and the Famished Spirit time:
Say Konoha -- do you know how you can get back the things you have lost? You just have to reverse time...
He would kill her.
His body trembled with a tempest of
madness as he made the decision.
Yes. Kill her. Do it.
So that time would never flow back on its original
path. So that she would be forever bound in his world.
Embrace her corpse, drink her blood, devour her flesh, lay
your head on her bones, and rest in the same casket. Her eyes,
her nose, her lips, her skin, her flesh, her blood, her bones--
all of it belonged to him.
As each of his fingers bit into her throat -- white as snow
and cold as an icicle -- he whispered hoarsely...
Well, okay, maybe this will up the dark factor of things.
