Humorous, yes. Sarcastic, no.

@Maxine - That's very sweet of you! I'll have a look-see next time I'm cruisin' on Goodreads. : D

@Series - I usually read the first book and then collect the whole series before continuing. I don't like waiting between books because my fiction-retention is very low (partly because I read too fast). I once read a six book series with at least a year between each book, sometimes two... every single time a new book came out I had to re-read all of the other ones. I read book one SIX TIMES, book two five times, and so on... @_@;;; Never. Again.

That being said, there are some authors who are very skilled at glossing over the events of the preceding books in a series in just a few paragraphs so that you'll get the gist of what happened before and still want to go back to the beginning. Mostly I find this in your average mystery or romance series.

Since getting new books was so rare and half the time our library never had the next book in the series, I got use to putting time in between books. When I can't remember certain events, I do a quick skim through the previous. Just hit a few chapters here or there and usually it all comes rushing back.

However, that being said, I'm a very big re-reader. ^_^ My favorite book Polgara the Sorceress I have read at least 15 times from end to end, and that's not including the many times I've jumped into that or this scene. Redemption of Althalus has received similar treatment. (I even own Althalus on my nook and am VERY VERY frustrated they have not put Polgara on the nook.) I've read Hunger Games three times, about to read Catching Fire for a second time. Have read Ranger's Apprentice book 1 at least five times now (the first few chapters though I keep rereading since my GOD they are so delicious).

... Goodreads kinda frustrates me for that reason. There is no way for me to mark that I am "rereading" a book nor is there a way to mark that book in the book challenge. :(

@Mr. Lostman -Mwahaha-*cough* uh, haha! Glad you enjoyed the book! : D I am REALLY looking forward to the third one in the Kingkiller Chronicles, which may or may not be called Doors of Stone. Also, my copy of Wise Man's Fear is currently being loaned to my friend's dad and I'm seriously tempted to buy the ebook because I want to read it again FIVE MINUTES AGO.

@Maxine - Ah, yeah, I do enjoy re-reading certain things, just not because I MUST, you know? And I think on Goodreads the only thing you'd be able to do for your re-reads is maybe start a new shelf and just call it "Currently Re-reading" or something. And I'm pretty sure when you create a review for a book there is an option to put the number of times you've read it, too! I just remembered that! It's under "more options" when you've got the review box open. I hope that helps!

Oh, and that book is The Mark of Athena, right? This adorable boy at my bookstore tried to pre-order it about a year ago, before they even had a title out for it... I took his name and number anyway. Can't wait to call him when it's in. :3

@Reynard - *looks at Maxine's post* Uhh... He was <number omitted>. At the time, I didn't have the heart to explain that we had no possible way to pre-order the book, so his name and number have just been waiting on a scrap of paper I've managed to hold onto.

@Mr. Lostman - Fair warning--it has some draggy bits compared to the first one. I got annoyed with OMG I'M KVOTHE AND I'M SOOOOO POOR after a while and the Felurian part had me rolling my eyes. Still, I do love the overall story and will be snatching up the third installment as soon as they'll let put my greedy little paws on it.

@Maxine - Don't feel bad. I can occasionally be found reading picture books and I've known plenty of grown ups who gush over that Percy Jackson series. :3

^_^; I..it wouldn't be so bad if like 9 out of 10 of my books weren't for that particular age group.

So I finally finished reading , by Karen Thompson Walker. I'm still digesting it. It's haunting but pretty heavily flawed. It's like diet sci-fi. There's an apocalypse but very little science, there's family/school drama but lightly developed characters, some really strong, beautiful writing here and there... It's one of those books that quietly but insistently demands that you read it in silence and solitude. It certainly has a way of evoking a somber mood. My biggest nitpick? It's told from the perspective of a 20-something woman about the year she turned 11 or 12... and throughout the entire book she kept saying things like, "It was the last time I would ever..." or "We would never blah blah blah again..." or "By now I've forgotten the taste of <insert no-longer-existing fruit here>" or something similar over and over and OVER. It was just full of these cheesy forshadowy phrases. Mostly, though, it was an enjoyable read. I liked the ending because

I give it three out of five stars.

......... thinking about re-reading Redemption of Althalus.... but trying not to because I have library books I gotta read.... but.... the book.... it is calling to me.... <_< (picked it up off the shelf today by accident to get something else but flipped over to my favorite scene... couldn't resist... *sigh*)

-_- God, I really wish I had gotten a chance to thank David Eddings before he passed away. Even if he never responded back, just to know that I had sent out the letter and I had made the attempt. :(

I say read what calls to you. Whenever I fight that urge I end up taking four times longer to finish the book, so I could've just read the one I wanted to first and still finished the one I felt obligated to read in a short amount of time. :3
