Really? I always thought it was just the opposite.
Crossover to me:
"You guys aren't really suppose to EVER meet because you are just two different stories set in two different worlds, but I'm breaking the laws of the universes just so you guys can meet."
Something like that.

Wolverine and Spiderman are a good example. And lots of other crossovers from Marvel and DC.
And then there's cases where it's not clear beforehand that they take place in a shared universe, but then afterwards people are like: "Huh, I guess these take place in a shared universe." Or multiverse in some cases. Emergency Exit and Parallel Dementia (may it rest in peace) for example.

Star Trek has both time travel and alternate realities. It can cross over with pretty much anything.
Not that it should.
edit: Just remembered my favorite crossover ever. Lupin III and Detective Conan.

Lupin III vs Detective Conan? Oh yes, very. I watched it at an anime convention with a bunch of strangers, which is possibly the best way to watch anything. Lots of cheering whenever something awesome happened, which was often. It was great.

I'm not quite understanding what you're trying to communicate, Zamisk.

^ Either that it was terrible, or that it's not technically a crossover.
I don't know. :3

I have to assume it's terrible, then, since that's totally a crossover.

I originally missed the point of his post, but now I'd like to point out that if it's the same universe in superhero universes it's called a team-up, crossovers are between existing universes and I've never heard a team-up called that when it's all one universe.

So.... I'm right then? Crossovers are different universes and the author is just forcing them together just so they can have a chance to interact.
