My sister pointed out after I discussed this issue with her (and explained what the hell DeM is - which, tell the full history here, Scy: it was the stage, the god would fly down through the use of the machine on the stage :3 ) that she didn't really feel my situations qualified.

She said that even though I had the harness-out-of-nowhere, it did not resolve the situation. It helped, yes, but Kriss was ultimately thrown out of the mouth and in the end Maxine could only kill the dragon with the help of a Sorcerer.

In any of my scenes where magic resolves the conflict, it's not through NEW-POWER-TADA its through the use of power Maxine already knows she has. She seems pretty confident I'm in the safe zone. Actually, she kinda felt that when Maxine used magic while it resolved one conflict it created a whole host of new conflicts. For instance, the book is started by Maxine's first use of a spell, and even in the finale, the use of a spell is what triggers the next book.

And to my knowledge I've never written myself into a corner. The scene with the harness was created out of the need to figure how how to awaken Maxine's first real "spell". It's even her most lesser spell. I have one moment in a future story where a boy and his friends escape a witch's lair through the use of a spell, but it's his first "awakening" and, again, the scene is created with it in mind. My Sorcerers awaken only through a traumatic event and in response to the situation and is what ends up shaping them. I couldn't avoid it if I tried.

And this was the point to my message before. I get so caught up worrying and fretting and banging my head against the wall "is this DeM? is this DeM?" that my writing suffers. I like to relax and just have fun writing. If my readers hate it, well, there's nothing I can really do about that. I'd like to think I'm in the clear zone. :\ This is the story I have picked out for this book. Maxine is a god reborn. :3 I came up with her when I wrote a short three paragraph scene of a sorcerer telling a girl that she was "The Chosen One" and she snapped at him to shut the hell up. :3 The open scene in the book she is even in the middle of a fist fight at school. She is considered magicless and has learned to get by without it. ^_^ This is the character that I have turned into The Chosen One. :3 I guess in a way I created her to make fun of all The Chosen One fantasy stories anyone could ever read.

.....She has a saving person thing, too, I couldn't kill that out of her, but, I mean... she tries to rescue Kriss the first time she sees him (and mistakes him for a girl) and he ended up having to save himself in the end anyways. ......... ^_^ She's not very conventional. And my favorite scene is still the moment when a warlock challenges her with magic and she punches him in the face. Amar is all like "WTF?!! THE MOST PHYSICAL THING I'VE EVER DONE WAS RAISE MY STAFF IN THE AIR!!" XD

So, Blood of the Fold.
Just reached the part where Warren gives his first prophecy. I'm willing to bet Phoebe's a Sister of the Dark. It's always the happy ones. And at least my confusion at seeing the word "sliph" was warranted, seeing as searching it on Wikipedia yielded a list of Sword of Truth characters article. I quickly went back a page before I could read anything, though.

And that was a neat little literary trick Goodkind pulled, defining what the Lumholtz slut was doing with her food smut and everything. I actually liked it, as long as he doesn't abuse the whole "create a situation and create an 'aha!' moment by defining it later" thing.
Aaaand TIME! I just finished "Brain Jack"...

JANESSA! DO NOT READ THE SPOILER TAGZ PLZ, unless you don't wanna read it.

It was amazing, it looks like just another book about
[hide]a virus[/hide] taking over the world via computers,
but whoa man. Fhududkxhsakj loved it. It was only 350 pages though. I ate it up and enjoyed it just as much as you will when you go read it. :<

It took hacking and made it sound like an epic spaceship starwars-y battle and oghghghfhfhgchsjsjskdhfhd MOAR
