Best weapon for that: Halberds. Long reach, good leverage, chopping head for normal use, thrusting head if you need it, and of course, it's not going to need ammo or fuel.

A sword would be a very, very bad weapon for zombies.
You'd be better off with a mace, club, or even a baseball bat.
Or, yes, a halberd -- but if they close in on space, you're gonna want something with less reach.
