I mean, with the audience they gained versus the audience they lost, it is not so bad from their standpoint.

I wear my Gundam Wing love proudly
and ignorant of all other Gundam
'cause bitch, please, I'm not in it for the mecha
I'm in it for the slash-tastic

...yeah, I don't think that's really an issue of action shows or even shounen really. Just bad direction and pacing. Lots of things fit that bill if we want to extrapolate it out to anything going on for awhile regardless of the genre.
Edit: And GW is probably the most yaoi friendly Gundam they've ever done. I think it's why all the recent ones seem to throw in an obvious female pairing (and follow through with it) to ...
...
Yeah, okay, that doesn't exactly stop anything.

Uncharted 3 has the dubious honor of having to hold me over until Skyrim (or I guess going back to Platinum Dark Souls).
Also, I need to control myself so I don't end up buying another video card for Skyrim. As a just in case kind of thing...

I built mine back for The Witcher 2. I want to upgrade it just for the sake of things (BECAUSE NEW THINGS ARE SHINY).
I mean, it's not that expensive... maybe I should...

You hating on my moe?
To be serious, though, it's a general problem of the industry, not just these few genres within it. Derivative work is expected with the economic issues. Look at the amount of floundering companies and unpaid labor. It's not all doom and gloom, mind you, but it's definitely a far cry from wildly successful with mountains of money to fund it.
Shounen gets the typical brunt of it since, honestly, it's a lot of the same basic premise. "There's some good guys and there's some bad guys stuff happens good guys are good." The parallels are easier to make. If we take everything back to their essence then, yes, it will all seem to be the same.
I'm not necessarily defending shounen itself but attacking the mindset on the issue. Shoujo has much the same issue of setups. That's the way it is. A lot of plots can be distilled into a few core tropes that define the genre itself; it feels awkward and grossly biased to attack one segment for what every other one does.
I don't care what people care to read/watch. Not my concern. It just feels weird to read the complaints that should really just be more in the vein of "I don't enjoy it." That's really what it comes down to. Just odd that for some reason shounen gets glossed over "the difference lies in how these events transpire." We easily accept that rationale for basically any other "It's like this but..." anime or manga; just for some reason shounen can be "same thing, different paint."
Which, to hammer it in again ideally, I don't care that people hate what I like (or I hate what they like, but that's probably because I hate you as a person) or what other strange permutations we want to go with. It's your choice. It just feels a little awkward when the talk goes "It's all the same. Excuse me while I go enjoy my other samey stuff." Apparently, this doesn't apply universally.
Seinen is my preferred genre as well, if only because it's such a large catch-all of types of reads or watches. I still enjoy the occasional shounen (and shoujo, josei) read but it's not just for the basis of the premise but for the cast itself or the way the story shapes itself. The actual meat of the plot; I don't necessarily care much about the ingredients in it but the preparation. The story woven means a lot more than the type it may be.

I am much the same in that I don't really give a shit what other people watch. The things I've enjoyed (in either manga or anime), Berserk, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Planetes, Casshern Sins (though, primarily for the art), and others, may not appeal to other people. I have a friend who still loves Naruto and other assorted things that I just can't handle, but he doesn't really like the stuff I watch. Oh well, thats taste I guess.
But essentially the anime production situation is a pretty dismal. Oh well. Anyway, this is pretty off topic.
