My preferences for all games are waning. I'm even starting to hate standard RPGs, especially turn-based. RPG elements in general are starting to seem pointlessly overdone and unecessary. This is serious 'coz I used to love RPGs. I think this is my mind telling me to try some other genres. I refuse to try RTS again, though. Maybe I'll pick up a FPS or two.

It might help. I've been playing RPGs since the first Dragon Warrior, and I'm seriously sick of most of them now. Rhythm games and puzzle games are my new genres of choice. They're the reasons I still play games, frankly.

Sometimes when I think about level up systems, they seem pointless in many of the games today. If it's a linear style, they could have so much more control over the difficulty without some system that could make it too hard or too easy depending on ones preferences for playing a game. It usually ends up with some kid running around a forest one-shotting goblins and all of a sudden he's like exponentially stronger, faster, smarter and tougher. I know games shouldn't make sense, but sometimes it's not necessary to have this. I can understand if it's a game where the player has a more open choice of where to go, so the developers use their level as a limitation as to where they go. Besides those times, it feels so unecessary. Especially games that FORCE you to grind to stand a chance, even if you execute a battle perfectly.
I mean, Zelda II was great, but imagine having that system in Twilight Princess. :[ I love character growth. I love learning new skills, improving equipment and all of those things, but I feel like they should be incorporating levelling systems less instead of more and more. My heart cries out for a pre-Symphony of the Night Castlevania.

What Vapour said. I got bored of games for awhile, then got into Puyo Puyo, Pop'n Music, and DJ MAX (puzzle and rhythm games).
