"I know you guys are having fun, but could you stop a sec and tell me why I'm involved with this?"

Not an actual line in the game, she's honestly wondering why the fuck she's there doing this.
And somehow, not the worst english dub ever.

Yeah...
Bible Black's dub (from the videos on youtube I've seen anyway) should count as one of the worst dubs ever, if only 'cause you'd have to hear them... moan and all.

Ugh.

To some of you, this is probably hella old. But I just found this video today, and my mind is still reeling. Best voice-acting ever.

CAN YOU MOVE URU.......

....Karen.
I'm pretty sure Rain posted that like one page ago here. It is terrible enough to warrant a reshow though.
Edit: To be less useless:

And I couldn't really find long talky-talky scenes with the Japanese voices but:

Doh, it's on the previous page. I guess I should have checked first, but I didn't want to go searching through 40 pages, etc. Either way, it is still amazing!

Edit: Normally I disagree when people say Japanese voices are better than English voices in games (that may have been true at one point, but more recent English voice-overs can be really good, depending on the game). But in this case, the Japanese voices are qualitatively way better. However, the English voices are more entertaining, I think.

That same user has like 10 or so videos of the English track dialogue if you want to listen to them all. For ... some reason.

Heh, I have been, actually. Plus I'm checking out other classic examples of bad voice acting. House of the Dead 2 is another good one.

o_O I don't get it.. how can you be BAD at voice acting?

I mean, I read stories to my little sister as she was growing up. Naturally I'm not that great at it like I wouldn't expect myself to win any awards or anything, but... at least I was able to add more emotion and feeling into a script than they were able to.

Maybe that's what they should do when recruiting for VAs? Give them a children's book and tell them to go read in front of a bunch of kids. If the kids are still listening to them at the end of 5 minutes, then you are at least one step closer to having a low-budget VA for your game.

<_< Hell, how does someone get into Voice acting? Maybe I should try it as a side career. >_<

For most "bad" voice acting, they tend to know nothing about the story or characters and are just reading the lines, hence why the delivery sounds flat or forced. It's especially noticeable on lines said under duress, while exhausted, or whatever that would change the tone. It's also a lot harder to do proper voice acting without facial expressions to go with the words.

I have no idea how these are so bad. I really, really don't. Some are monotone and then there's some with LOOKRANDOMEXCITEMENTBEHINDMYVOICE; weird pauses, rushed delivery, and overall terrible. It's confusing. I mean, they could just fucking read the script and probably do better than some of these. It's probably just a combination of "just reading" and "not fucking caring" so they're just reading it out loud as if it were a form letter or something to themselves.

You can get the most vocal and active speakers and toss them in a scenario where they have to actually "act" and it's a whole different story. Naturally speaking and reading lines end up far differently. Toss those same people into a scenario where they have to express something with words alone AND speaking to noone? It's a lot different.
I can't believe I'm defending shitty voice acting ...

Fuck this. What the fuck people. It's not that hard to read things and at least sound NORMAL.
I don't know much about the industry, but I'd like to think that if you were hired to voice a character for a game, you'd have enough sense to at least go onto the internet the night before the reading and look up the character and the game.

Ok, I can understand side characters - no one usually pays attention to them anyway.

And then there's the point that you've made: just reading the lines NORMALLY should be enough. Half the time when I was reading Harry Potter to my sister I wasn't sure how much emotion to put in the voice ("LOTS of dialogue," Hermione said with rushed excitement) so I would just use a voice that seemed appropriate for the line.

You may be right, though. I really DON'T know what is going on behind the scenes. Still, that one video... you could tell the guy was making a bunch of threats, and I know NOTHING of the game - >_< WHY?! wouldn't he read it like he was a big ass mobster threatenting someone.

Failure to care probably. I don't think they actually hired Voice Actors (I hope not) and just used like interns or something for CW. This matters more than you think as even some pretty big name voices/actors in games tend to suck if they don't get paid enough (Jason Statham in the most recent Turok pretty much sucked it up the entire time with flat delivery).

And, no, most people doing voices don't bother googling them as a lot don't care that much. And a lot of descriptions don't tell you of how they speak and little things like that. Also, they record out of order usually. Keep in mind, most Voice Actors also do multiple roles at once so it's not like they can look up how they should be delivering lines for like 5+ characters at once.
This is probably less of an issue now with the big name VAs that only do anime work or game work. Some games, Uncharted notably, actually let them improv some of the dialogue and it came out rather well. I think voice acting these days is taken far more seriously opposed to before where it was more of a "time to phone it in" jobs.

Then again, PSP and DS games still have terrible fucking voice acting in general so ...
Pretty much just: pay for shit, get shit. Some of the really bad ones though, like CW, I hope are either like interns not giving a damn or intentionally horrible.
