I totally understand. :[
It is really funny when you have anime war stories and the only female characters are like generals or the headquarters-computer-girl type and stuff. It is not empowering. It just makes it look fake. Especially when they have such uniform personalities. The rest of the cast is boring male leads or dumb male stock soldiers. Even in our current world 15-25% of our military forces consist of women with this percentage rising every year.

Mao, the roughneck sergeant from FMP, was far more tolerable than Tessa, the ditzy, klutzy captain.
I haven't read them, but Tanya Huff's sci-fi books feature a (female) space marine. And Lynn Flewelling's bools the Queen leads the troops in battle and females are about half the army, from foot soldiers to calvary to archers to generals. You, sadly, rarely find this sort of thing in anime. The only thing I could remotely think of is X, but even then the females were entirely archetypal.
