Ever play Pokemon? Well, I believe the comic's making fun of the tendency to take one step in a cave, only to have Zubats (among other pokemon that refuse to go away, no matter what generation it is) swarm you. You begin to hate them pretty quickly. Although Crobat's pretty cool.
Interestingly, Black/White apparently will only have Generation 5 pokemon available during the main game (I'm assuming older pokemon can be caught after the champion's beaten).
