The accuracy of this comic is astounding.

I don't agree with the "I dye my hair crazy colors so I must be looking for attention." On the subconscious level yes, you are. You may not know it yourself but subconsciously, you are looking for a way for society to notice you.

I dyed my hair magenta for about two years, and it certainly wasn't for attention or for society to notice me. I did it because I thought it was fun, and it brought me happiness. When I dress a certain way, I do so because I love the clothes, the way they look on me, and the way they feel. Right now I'm wearing a skirt with a map of the world on it, and my socks have whales all over them. Sure, it might get me attention, but frankly I'd dress the exact same way if no one commented. If absolutely no one ever commented on my hair being magenta, I still would have kept it that way.

Arguably there are those that dress and dye their hair in order to get attention, or perhaps prove they are somehow unique by wearing Hot Topic bullshit and spending hundreds of dollars on outfits that are just as cookie-cutting punk/goth/emo/EGL as the next so-called "freak."

Oh, and as for that comic, yes, fuck the "Nice Guy/Forever Alone" bullshit that you always see on reddit and elsewhere, that utter vitriol hatred of women because some guys can't grow a pair of balls and enjoy life. I completely disagree that "girls want jerks" is universal -- I would never date an asshole. Mr Kino is a perfectly nice guy, rather a beta male as opposed to an alpha, but he has a good sense of humor, had the courage to ask me out when others did not, and possessed the self-confidence that a girl loves. That's the secret right there; self-confidence and a sense of humor. That's a pretty damn universal panty-dropper.

I think that clothes are an entirely different subject, but again, this is all just my sole opinion and I'm perfectly fine with others disagreeing.

The reason I think that it hits on the subconscious level is because of my psychology class, granted I don't know if you've had a psychology class and went into it deeper than I did, I'm just posting this to really justify my reasoning, not start a fight or anything. We had a class once talking about how recently society has been breaking up in terms of sameness and that more and more people are finding ways to stick out in a crowd. I wish I could go into more detail about it but it's been a year since I've had that class and the conversation was only for one day and I'd really hate to get my facts wrong and end up making people mad.

I've never had colored hair before but in middle school one of my friends had a new hair color almost every month. If it weren't for the fact that I'm not confident in my looks and that I've been told that my natural hair color is actually really nice, I would try to dye my hair.

And I'm glad you weren't trying to fight. I'm just really scared of upsetting people so I always apologize if I think I'm coming off as offensive even if I'm really not...

oh, I'm sorry, does someone feel that a clothing company run by the exact same people that run Banana Republic and the Gap really speaks to the human condition of being an avant garde emo outsider?

Or are you implying that Hot Topic does not, in fact, make over-priced, shoddy clothing?

Not that I don't own several items from that store, including a pair of socks I'm incredibly fond of, and a very pretty dress I got off clearance. Emphasis being clearance because everything in that store is way expensive and not worth it.
