hehehe, Zandrena. Awesome.
I wish I could overlay those two maps somehow. The top one is population distribution as shown by visible nighttime light. The bottom is the 2008 election results by county.

Here you go, Kino:
Red and blue as usual for USA politics. Green = city lights at night. So cyan means a 'blue' city, and yellow means a 'red' city. Sorry for the artifacts at the edges of the map and image; the two original maps had different scales and orientations.

Kimiko - Thanks!! That looks awesome. it supports my theory that rural = red and urban = blue, pretty much. Also, water/coast = blue and dry/mountain = red.
Although I'm really intrigued by the Southeast. The major cities are a touch red with northern suburbs in the red -- makes sense, as the rivers are south and the mountains are north. I'm also wondering if there's some rich/poor suburb distribution there...
-_- And the deepest section of red seems to be the texas/oklahoma panhandle area. Yay...

Oops. Didn't see that last line of text. Use a slightly larger font next time, okay? Size=4 should do fine.
